Hi, I have a problem where about every 10-20 seconds Windows Explorer crashes and restarts. The desktop and the start bar flicker, and if I have any Explorer windows open they close.

This is causing me problems because as well as the flickering being uncomfortable on the eyes, I'm not able to do things that take a bit of time like copying large files.

The most annoying thing is that I was getting this previously, and did a full reset of windows (including removing all files) to fix it. It seemed to be ok at first, but now it has come back again. I am currently running Windows 10 Pro on the Insider Program.

I have tried everything suggested in this post, but it hasn't helped:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_10-performance-winpc/windows-explorer-keeps-restarting/6b136d36-1eac-454f-af93-27e48b309f2a

I also have tried doing a System Restore a few times, but after restarting it keeps saying that it was unable to complete because it couldn't access a file.

I am getting Problem Reports - here is an example of one (there are 354 of these):

Thanks Pauli, I've downloaded & installed the standard build of Win 10 Pro, so I think this will have resolved my issues.

I don't think I need to be on the Insider Program for the time being at least, was on it for Mixed Reality development but I believe the usual public builds have everything required for this now.

"- Your Microsoft account requires attention to get Insider Preview builds"

    • Go to Accounts / Your Info to see if it ask to verify your account
    • Go to Updates / Windows Insider Program page to check are you linked your account to program?

Did you download some unofficial ISO for 17661 from internet? If it is possible download official ISO for Windows 10 v1803, do clean install, set your PC to Get Insider Previews in Fast Ring and try again.

Here is similar question and some instructions how to change to Fast Ring.

    Hi,

Many thanks to both of you for the fast replies.

It's great news that this is fixed with the latest insider build. However I'm having a little trouble updating to the latest build:

    Under Windows Update, it says:

    • You're up to date
    • Your Microsoft account requires attention to get Insider Preview builds

    Under Windows Insider Program:

    • What kind of content is set to: Active development
    • What pace is set to: Slow

... but both of these are greyed out so that I can't change them. Do I need to have it set to Fast to get 17677?

My Windows Insider account is set to the same one that I am using here.

That is known bug in build 17661. Latest build is 17677 where this bug is fixed.

Go to Settings / Update / Windows Update and click "Check for Updates".

On Insider forum you can get better answered issues regarding Insider Previews.
