Windows10 keeps updating 3 to 4 times EVERY day!

I like some things about Windows10, but Windows10 Update Assistant has started updating at least 3 to 4 times EVERY day! Each process takes about 1½ hours. I have turned off the screensaver, and disabled the antivirus. Nothing is helping, and no one can figure out what is wrong. I have Windows10 version 1607.

Nothing wrong with your computer. It's Microsoft.  I've had same experiences and can't get work done. I've missed deadlines and opportunities thanks to Microsoft . And they don't do anything to fix their junk windows 10. I think it's time we all dig deep into our pockets and invest in alternative operating systems ; ones that actually work. I've had 3 updates today alone!  Everytime I have to reinstall drivers and fix stuff, then as soon as I'm done, another update.  I cannot fathom why Microsoft want to annoy their users like this

They never admit there's any problem.  It's always the users fault. Bad, bad system.

    It didn't really fix anything.

I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter. It took quite awhile and seemed to be accomplishing things. At first I thought it was going to have fixed the problem, but it is continuing to update several times a day.

Tim, I finally solved the Microsoft problem this week. It took 3 techs, 5 phone calls to India or wherever they are located and about 10 hours of my time. So, it turns out that my computer was running Windows 10 - Version 1709 and it was trying to download updates meant for Version 1803. The third tech figured it out and did a completely new download of Windows 10 - Version 1803 which took the better part of the day and several hours on the phone with them. The tech took remote access of my computer several times during the day. This all happened two days ago and so far, knock on wood, everything looks normal and is running smoothly. The question remains, why isn't this process seamless?

I finally had to take my computer to some professionals. They said they have been seeing this problem with Win10 since October, 2017, and that the only solution is to totally wipe the hard drive clean and reinstall everything. I am now in the tedious process of trying to get programs functional again. The only problem they could not solve was being able to restore a bridge between Outlook (calendar and contacts) and iCloud. The option for restoring that process was not an available choice to check, as it normally is. I can use the calendar on Outlook but there is no bridge choice available for it to sync with iCloud. The same is true for the contacts. They are on outlook but cannot sync with iCloud. They even tried reinstalling the latest version of Outlook, and re-established my iCloud account setting up two email options: xxx.gmail.com (Outlook) and xxx.iCloud.com. But the bridge between Outlook and iCloud is missing, and there seems to be no fix for this Microsoft issue.

    Hi,

I'm also already struggling with this problem since several weeks.

I guess I've already tried more than 100 times.

It keeps failing upgrading v1703 to v1709.

I consider the standard Microsoft answer that I've read on many pages (se above the answer of David Haz) to be unvalid:

    • I've tried to do it on an other laptop same network; that went flawlessly. So Network is OK.
    • As every try tells me it is downloading the package, then, do not tell me the package was downloaded corrupty.
    • Running the troubleshooter.

Also, I've already tried all kinds of suggestions found in the answers provided to many others struggling this issue:

    • running SFC,
    • running DISM,
    • Disabling and uninstaling the external (AVG) virus scanner,
    • ...

Most of the error cordes in C:$Windows.~bt\sources\Panther\setuperr.log are undocumented. So, Microsoft, how do you want us to interprete them and to take appropriate measures.

Time for Microsoft to agree there is something seriously wrong and to come with a good solution !!!

FYI: First lines from the latest setuperr.log that I have:

    ...

Important fact to note: As mentioned above, in a try to solve the issue, I did an uinstall of all AVG products. They are no longer present in the APP directory and even the directory c:\program files (x86)\avg does no longer exist. So, why is update then complaining about them?

    Greetings,

    Carol.
