I have been using remote desktop connections for years now between 5 computers all on the same LAN. Just yesterday I wanted to control a different computer but the usual icon has disappeared.( I'm using Windows 10 Pro Version 1709.) When I asked Cortina for Remote Desktop Connections, I was led on a merry chase over the internet asked to install an app for remote desktop client and the trouble hasn't stopped.

Hello Mike, if you type "remote desktop" into search, what comes up? Does remote desktop connection manager show up or no?

Only Remote Desktop Settings comes up and the link takes me to the usual Remote Desktop settings page. I previously had the long time Remote Desktop Connection on my computers but sine a recent update a new app appears in the cortina list. This app wants you to connect via the internet. Even the RDC exe has disappeared from the windows folder.

Did you follow the link to this: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server...

It has a guide on how to allow remote access

You can configure your PC for remote access with a few easy steps.

On the device you want to connect to, select Start and the click the Settings icon on the left.

Select the System group followed by the Remote Desktop item.

Use the slider to enable Remote Desktop.

It is also recommended to keep the PC awake and discoverable to facilitate connections. Click Show settings to enable.

As needed, add users who can connect remotely by clicking Select users that can remotely access this PC.

Members of the Administrators group automatically have access.

Make note of the name of this PC under How to connect to this PC. You'll need this to configure the clients.
