Windows 10 does not detect USB speakers

My PC has Windows 10 pro installed (ver 1607 build 14393.1944 32 bit). I had been using USB speakers with the PC and they used to work with some hitch. Now and then windows would not play any sound on the USB speaker, but unplugging the speakers and plugging in again to the same / different port would normally do the trick. After a long time, I tried plugging in the speakers again but Windows just does not play any sound on them. When I plug in standard headphones on the 3.5mm jack, Windows detects them and also plays sounds. However it does not detect the speakers plugged in to the USB port. I have tried different ports with the same problem. I am using USB ports for my mouse, keyboard and external hard disk without any problem however the speakers are not detected by Windows. The speaker icon at the bottom right corner displays the notification "No speakers or headphones are plugged in". Also the sound control panel does not show the USB speakers listed in the audio devices. I have also tried disabling, uninstalling and updating drivers on the generic USB hub and scanning for hardware changes. Nothing seems to work.

Any help would be appreciated

The answers given to you by Microsoft is their typical run around. You waste hours applying their "solutions" which never help because that's not where the problem originates (they never know). It always ends in their suggesting that you reinstall. Sort of the equivalent of a mechanic telling you to drop in a new engine because your car won't start. If a mechanic can't tell you what is wrong with your car and why it can't be fixed then you need to find a competent mechanic. That is right. I just stated Microsoft is incompetent when it comes to the problems of their very own created OS.

    Hi Jefferson,

I tried the USB troubleshooter but it didn't identify any issue and the problem still remains.

    Hello,

System file corruption is one of the possible reasons why your USB speakers does not work properly in Windows 10. To troubleshoot the issue, we suggest running the USB troubleshooter to help you find and diagnose issues with USB audio, storage and printer devices. To do this, simply download the tool here.

Once downloaded, run the troubleshooter and follow the on-screen instructions.

Should you have further questions, please let us know.

In this case, we suggest creating a new user account and see if the same issue will occur while on a different user profile. This is to ensure that the current local account you are using is working as it should. To do this, simply follow the steps below:

    1. Select the Start button, then select Settings  > Accounts  > Family & other people > Add someone else to this PC.
    2. Type a user name, password, password hint, and then select Next.

If you have questions, please let us know.
