I have never heard of BitDefender but keep getting a pop up message saying:-

A problem has occured in BitDefender Threat Scanner. A file containing error information has been created at C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\BitDefender Threat Scanner.dmp. You are strongly encouraged to send the file to developers of the application for further investigation of the error.

What is this program? I never installed it. Who do I send this information to? I have Trend Micro anti virus on my computer. Is this some sort of anti-virus program? Please help. Thanks.

    Hi Lorzee,

    Open Windows File Explorer

    Navigate to C:\Windows\Temp

Delete the contents of that folder

    Close File Explorer

Open Control Panel - Programs and Features

Scroll down to find BitDefender and select that and choose Uninstall if it is listed

    Close Control Panel

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager

    Click on the Startup Tab

See if BitDefender is listed there

If it is, select it and click 'Disable'

    Close Task Manager

Click your Start Button, type msconfig and hit Enter

When the System Configuration dialog opens, click on the Services Tab

Check the box marked 'Hide Microsoft Services'

In the remaining list see if BitDefender is listed there , uncheck any you find

    Click Apply and OK

Restart your System and this annoyance will be gone . . .

Bitdefender has several AV products - >details here.<

If I was in your situation, I would wouldn't just want to disable/remove it - I'd want to know how it got there. For a start, go to Control Panel > Programs. That will tell you which version you have and also when it was installed. With that info, you can contact Bitdefender >in a number of ways.<

    I'm sure they'll help you.

Uninstalling it is easy - I use Revo Uninstaller (free) as that gets rid of all the dregs.

The sad/annoying fact is that nowadays so many reputable websites have ways to trick you into installing software you didn't ask for.

Hoping this helps - good luck! Let us know how you get on, please.

    Hi Dave,

Thank you so much for your reply and for trying to help me here. I tried both of your suggestions but didn't see 'bit defender' in either of them.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks again :-)
