How to stop Mouse Pointer auto selecting when hovering over a hyperlink in Windows 10

When typing and working in multiple screens I am often frustrated that the mouse pointer is left hovering over a hyperlink which is then autoselected opening the corresponding link.  How can this be disabled in Windows 10?  I don't see anything under the "Ease of Access" tabs.   In all my searching I can't seem to find an answer to this question.  Appreciate your help.

    Hello,

Thanks for keeping the thread updated.

The previous solution of Romel Ram was so helpful, and could have accurately solved the concern already. It was also a wise workaround that you modify the registry.

In addition to all this, and upon trying to replicate, the issue happened only if you enabled "Single-click to open item" option under the File Explorer Options > General tab > Click item as follows.

    Keep us posted.

    Hi David,

If you're using a laptop, it is possible that this is due to touchpad or Ease of Access settings.

Kindly follow the steps below to disable the Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse option:

    1. Open the Ease of access center
    2. Select Make the mouse easier to use
    3. Make sure to uncheck the Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse option.
    4. Click OK

If the issue persists, you can check the touchpad settings for any smart gesture settingsor single tap option. Disable it temporarily and test the issue.

Feel free to post back for the results.

I also would like to disable this feature. However, no such checkbox exists under Ease of Access or anywhere else I could find (and Activate a Window by hovering is unchecked too). Nothing like that exists in device dialogs for mouse, touchpad, or pointer options settings, and nothing under taskbar or start menu settings.

I have finally resorted to a registry hack I found to set the pointer hover width and height to zero, though I haven't rebooted yet to see if it will work. It's not an ideal solution. I additionally set the start up to always default to desktop mode instead of tablet mode.

Any additional ideas for things I can try would be much appreciated. I am on an HP Pavilion laptop if that makes a difference. Thanks.
