HDR Blacks Pixelated?? - Windows 10

Recently restored my Windows 10 PC as before i couldn't update it because of corrupted windows files (i was a few windows updates behind but HDR WAS FINE), now i've restored my PC and i'm up to date on windows updates, dark colours when HDR is enabled in windows settings are really pixelated, even when watching 4K content! All my drivers are up to date and in NVIDIA control panel im using Default colour settings (i've tried to also use NVIDIA settings but didn't change anything). This leads me to believe it's a windows problem? As soon as i disable HDR in windows settings the pixelation goes away?? Help please!

See attached images of the pixelation i am talking about :)

I have the exact same problem. HDR in windows off; blacks fine.

HDR on: Pixelated/block mess on dark colors. Especially in 1080-bluray content, this is again fine with lower source content (no pixelation) when HDR is OFF

Sounds like the exact same problem as me, glad I'm not the only one! Hopefully we get another reply soon.

    Hi Devlin,

Thanks for your reply. My windows version is Windows 10 Home Version 1803. I have also attached screenshots from my PC's dxdiag so you can see the specifications of my PC.

Running the troubleshooter did not pick up on any errors. Performing a clean boot did NOT solve my HDR Pixelation problem... What do you suggest now? Perhaps roll back my PC or clean restore?

I look forward to your response :)

    Hi Nooters717,

A misconfiguration with the display adapter driver might be causing the pixelation issue. It would be great if you can tell me more about your concern. Please answer the following:

    • What is the make and model of your computer?
    • Are you getting any error messages?
    • Which media player app are you using to play videos?
    • What is the current OS Build of your Windows 10 system? You can find this information by clicking the Start button, type About your PC, press Enter, and then scroll down to Windows specifications.

Running the troubleshooter for hardware and devices can help us find and fix misconfiguration with your device drivers. Make sure that you're signed in as the administrator to run the tool.

    1. Select the Start button.
    2. Type Troubleshoot and then hit Enter.
    3. Select Hardware and Devices under Find and fix other problems.
    4. Click Run the troubleshooter.
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

To determine if the issue is caused by a software conflict, you can perform a clean boot. A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you watch videos with HDR enabled. You can find the steps on how to perform a clean boot in Windows 10 from this support article. Should you need further assistance with the procedure, you can watch our YouTube video.

NOTE: Please go to the section: Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to boot the PC in normal startup after fixing the issue.

We're looking forward to your response.
