Qualcomm Atheros AR956X and Windows Update

Hi,

I have this issue on 3 laptops all of which have this network adapter. Their driver is dated 26/03/2016 version 3.0.2.201 but that doesn't seem to be the latest driver so why isn't Windows Update giving me the latest driver?

Since installing the Spring Update of Windows 10, they randomly disconnect from wifi, and Googling this seems to be a known issue, so I'd have thought Windows Update would've issued the latest driver (which hopefully doesn't have this issue with Windows 10)????

Thanks,

David

Thanks both. I'll give it a shot on one of the laptops when I'm feeling brave. Is there any instructions on how to roll back if it makes it worse?

The real question is why isn't Microsoft giving out a more up-to-date driver? Given all the folk complaining about the exact same thing it appears to be a common problem...

(for me, it's just a nuisance, and am wary of making it worse...)

    Thanks,

    David

Hi David. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

    Try the drivers here:

    https://www.ath-drivers.eu/download-driver-nr-3...

    http://drivers.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.p...

You'll need to browse into the folder from Device manager > Atheros device > Upgrade Driver > Browse.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

You could also try the following driver from the Microsoft Update site - first one in the link:

    http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Sea...

You have to manually download and then install the driver using the Device Manager.

Post back if you need any help with that.
