Display drivers refusing to install (Nvidia GTX 750 Ti)

When I decided to update drivers, the drivers fail to install. I have a completely up to date installation of windows. When using the Nvidia installer from the Nvidia website, the installation fails when installing display drivers without anything like a black screen.

When attempting to update the drivers from Device Manager, my video card shows up under "Other Devices" as "Display"  with a little yellow triangle on it. After attempting to update the drivers automatically, Microsoft Basic Display Drivers get installed. After installing it manually by pointing it to C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\390.77\Win10_64\International\Display.Driver, the driver also fails to install with a message "Windows found drivers for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install them" and "The remote procedure call failed"

I went online and saw that "the remote procedure call failed" error could be solved by messing around in Services.msc. I checked it, and it was all like recommended and I did not change anything. I also tried using DDU to perform a clean install, but that failed. I tried installing it in safe mode and by disabling driver signature enforcement, with no success.

I have the latest drivers from Nvidia, but I have also tried all of the above with older drivers, with no success. Thank you for any help.

Hi CheeseAndCrackers1, I am Rob, an independent and a 10 time and dual award MVP specializing in Windows troubleshooting and Bluescreen analysis. Please remember as independents we are not responsible for the development of Windows or the computer hardware and drivers. If you will work with me I will be here to help until the issue is resolved.

    Try this method :

Download the latest and any other older driver you wish to try from the System/Motherboard Maker's Site and also check the actual video device maker (such as Intel, Nvidia or AMD/ATI). Do not install yet.

    Make a Restore Point :

Start - type in --> Restore ......... find at top and click on - then use Create

Use this method to remove the present video drivers.

    Display Driver Uninstaller

Then install the desired driver you previously downloaded.

You should also check with Nvidia Support and forums in case there are known issues with a fix.

Nvidia - Drivers - Use OPTION 1 to manually enter your driver info to get most current drivers.

Nvidia Support - check with Support as it could be a known issue

Nvidia Forums - also check for forums as it could be a known issue and/or others likely to have it

It's the original poster of the thread. I no longer have the problem. I had to reinstall windows, but the problem's gone. If you've tried everything else on the thread, it's your last option. Don't forget to check Nvidia forums for someone with the same issue.

So you first ran the Display Driver Uninstaller and then tried the updated drivers?

Did you double check the version? Just to be sure.

Do these first in case there is some corruption.

Windows Key + X - Command Prompt (Admin) OR Windows PowerShell (Admin)

(Run these one line at a time.)

    SFC /scannow

Note if that shows uncorrected errors - continue regardless.

When that completes run these :

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

    DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Note if that shows any uncorrected errors - continue regardless.

    Then restart the computer.

Could be something interfering with the process so I would try installing them in Safe Mode.

Unfortunately, your steps did not work. I tried using even older drivers from early 2016 with no success. Same errors and everything
