External Blu-ray writer "Samsung SE-506CB" doesn't read Blu-rays with Windows 10

Hello community!

I recently switched from windows 7 to windows 10 (1803) and my Blu-ray drive stopped reading Blu-rays. I've tried it with several other PCs/laptops, it was always the same, it worked with windows 7 but not with windows 10. CDs and DVDs work on both systems fine.

I have the latest firmware (TS02) on it and Samsung doesn't provide any special software for windows 10 for that drive. My device was manufactured in December 2015, I read online that some people have that problem, other once don't.

I found a succession online to try a USB Y-cable to use the additional power from another USB but it didn't work.

Additionally I tried this recommendation but it didn't work for any of my PCs either:

Has someone any recommendation which other things I could try?

Thanks a lot, Daniel!

Thank you for letting me know. I've made some research regarding the said issue and it seems that it's not only limited to Windows 10 as some Mac users also experience the same. Also, some users suggested that using Cyberlink PowerDVD enables them to play Blu-Ray discs with their Samsung SE-506CB.

    According to the user's response:

"Your SE-506CB will work on DVD, but not Blu-Ray because of DRM copy protection and because DRM will come in newer versions and your software (like PowerDVD which also plays blue-ray) have to be updated."

For reference, you can visit the thread in this link.

    Regards.

    Thanks for your quick answer.

The drive just uses the generic driver. The manufacturer recommends to use a Y USB cable which I have already tried.

If anyone finds a workaround, please let me know!!

    Cheers, Daniel

    Hello Daniel,

Thank you for providing me a detail information of your concern. As you've mentioned above, there's a huge possibility that the said company no longer provides drivers or firmware updates for the said external ROM-drive in Windows 10. That being said, I can no longer guarantee that the device will work properly in Windows 10 and incompatibilities may occur.

Furthermore, I'd recommend contacting the manufacturer of your external ROM-drive for further assistance and any possible workarounds that they may provide.

Let me know if you have other concerns.

    Regards.
