It would not affect a download version, but...
If you are using a disc based version of MS Train Simulator and have been getting errors saying to
'run as admin', you have been
led astray by MS.
This, and most older MS (and many other developer/publishers) games uses SafeDisk copy protection (v20.70.030 with this game - on CD 2 only, which is probably the one used when launching the game).
MS started blocking the driver used by this form of DRM when theyy released Win10, but MS couldn't be bothered including
an honest error message with Win10, so this 'run as admin' pops up.
I have more details on DRM Blocking in my post at ---this thread---
- DRM Blocking generally only affects installed games, but also can prevent games from installing occasionally. In this
case if you copy the files from the disc's to a folder on your desktop you will often be able to install the game from there.
Once installed this folder can be deleted.
- To run the game you will need a noCD fix/hack. Unfortunately you may need to trawl some train sim sites to find one
as my source of noCD fixes has only a German language version which may not work with English version.

- If you have not already, also enable Direct Play. Go to
Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off
Scroll to and tic the box next to Legacy Components & Direct Play
.
