Could your computer be compromised? It might be part of a botnet or a torrent. That will result in a huge change in bandwidth usage. Your anti-malware software is unlikely to realize this, because the behavior is designed to evade detection.
Over 400 GB used last month, 300 GB from the System.
So recently I wanted to check my wifi usage because I almost went over my 1 TB limit. I then saw that "System" has used over 300 gigabytes since last month. Any reason why, and how to bring this amount down?

Open the Settings App
Go to Update and Security - Windows Update
Click Advanced Options - Choose How Updates are Delivered
Turn off the Delivery Optimization Settings you find there
Another thing to check, if you use OneDrive
Create folders for your data and sync those folders to OneDrive, do not sync your Documents, Downloads . . . etc folders.
Those folders contain data that is changed by software on your PC and when that data is changed, it is synced, and re-synced which can be a very wasteful operation, especially with regards to using up your data . ..

To determing what is System doing you nay look at IP addresses in Network tab of Resmon.
System may work on behalf of some other programs. Right now I'm seeing on my computer the System loads data not for Windows but for WoW game.
