I have unintentionally set up opening .obj file by Microsoft Paint as default, but I want to use Blender for this purpose. How can I change it back so I could import the file in Blender on win7

    Hi Joshy

Setting File Associations in Windows 10 is currently a bit buggy

Right click an obj file, choose 'Open WIth' - Choose Another App

IMPORTANT - Check the box marked 'Always use this app to open objx . . .'

If Blender is not in the list, scroll to the bottom and click 'More Apps'

Again if Blender is not in the list, at the bottom, click 'Look for another app on this PC', then navigate to find the blender executable and choose that

    That is located here:

    C:/program files (x86)/blender foundation/blender/blender.exe

That's It, once that is done, you should be able to double click an obj file to open it in Blender . . .

    Hi Joshy,

    Please follow this guideline:

Right-click the file, select Open with - Choose default program.

Select Blender, make sure to check the box to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and then press OK.

Write me back if it works or not.

    Thanks,

    Andrew N.

Hi Josh. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

In Windows 10 go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps, in WIndows 7 go to Control Panel > Default programs, choose Set Default by File type, find .obj files and associate Blender with that file type.

If Blender is not listed and you cannot browse to it in the Choose Apps box, then go back to Choose Default by App, choose Blender as Default app to see if it picks up that file type.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
