How much memory does Windows 10 need?

I bought this netbook with win10 fitted and it is crap, everything takes forever to load especially Facebook. I've been told 2gb is not enough to run efficiently is this true? It is not upgradable so before I throw it out of the window (ah now I see why they chose that for a name :) ) is there anything I can do apart from buy a laptop with more RAM? I've tried uninstalling as much as possible and all the other recommendations but nothing has helped so far. It works fine offline but that is of little use at work.

    Hi WhoBiggs,

    The specs are as followed;

    Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC

    RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit

    Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS

    Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver

    Display: 800x600

    So technically this can run, but it will not be at its best performance.

    To make this run better you may be able to change the appearance to help improve;

    Launch Settings > search for performance and select 'adjust the appearance and performance of windows' > select adjust for best performance.

    You may also be able to upgrade the RAM in the laptop to help with this too, What netbook do you have?

    thanks

    It's running 64, can i run 32 instead? I have a HP Pavilion x2 so RAM is fixed, I have a card in to use for storage too.

    In this case the architecture is irrelevant--with 2GB of non-upgradable RAM it doesn't matter whether the OS is 32 or 64-bit.  The fact is that the minimum requirements for Windows RAM are rarely adequate.  You need at least 4GB and 8GB is ideal for most purposes.  Another drawback is that the computer has only 32GB of storage, which is not nearly enough to support a Windows 10 installation in the long run.

    Hi, how are you for posting in our microsoft community I'm here to help you solve your problem

    https://venturebeat.com/2015/03/18/microsoft-re...

    the 2 gb ram you have fall within the minimum requirements for windows to function normally, but remember that it's not just that, your laptop

     when executing more tasks, this same one will need more processes for which it could become a little slower, to open programs, applications, among others it will have to contribute to the performance of your laptop

    Windows 10 technical preview has these requirements:

    Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster

    RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)

    Free hard disk space: 16 GB

    Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

    A Microsoft account and Internet access

    What is RAM and how does it work?

    Let's start with the most basic elements of the question. RAM is where data is stored before processing. RAM stands for Random Access Memory, and it consists of dynamic memory chips that can be written and rewritten with data very quickly. Unlike your hard drive, however, the memory used for RAM is also volatile, meaning that it only holds onto that data while the chip is powered, so it's not designed to hold information long term.

    Essentially, RAM is the memory that actually lets you work with the data needed to run programs and open files. Whenever your computer loads a program or opens a file, it opens up that data in RAM. Even your operating system uses RAM when it's running. If you want to run a program, it pulls the data from long-term storage on your hard drive to short-term storage in RAM, where it can be accessed quickly enough for smooth operation.
