How can I change Windows 10 system font from the Segoe UI to something actually readable?

I have trouble reading fonts such as Arial and Segoe.  I need to change my system font to something readable, such as Bookman Old Style.  How do I safely do this?  If it's necessary to change the registry, how do I do that safely?

I'm not interested in answers about cleartype or font size.  I'm quite well aware of how to change those things.  It is the font itself I need to change.

And as far as feedback, how can I inform Microsoft that the restrictions on "personalization" in Win10 are horrible, and that they should go back to the Win7 style of allowing the user to set up such things as, oh, hey, the FONT?

Thanks!

    Hi again Beth -

There were Font management changes made in April Version 1803 Update so make sure you have that first at Settings > System > About.

If not install the Media Creation Tool from this link choosing Download Tool Now, install the tool, open it and choose Upgrade this PC Now. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m.... This will save your files and apps while bringing you up to the latest version by the most stable method. It will also bring all of your Updates current and solve most problems since it reinstalls Windows.

Once in Version 1803 see here how to install Fonts: https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-man...

Hi Beth. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Go to Settings > Personalization > Fonts to choose a new one.

I've done that and clicked on the Bookman Old Style font.  It doesn't appear to do anything.  It brings up the font's window, showing type size and giving the information about it, but it doesn't change the system font.

I'm a bit reluctant to try David.P.'s link, because I'm just a bit scared of goofing around in the registry directly.

Should I chose to try the instructions from that page, will creating a RESTORE point prior to editing the registry guarantee that anything I mess up, can be un-messed?

You know the way some old ladies feel about their cats or grandchildren?  That's kind of the way I feel about my car and my laptop.... Possibly I need to get out more, huh?

Go to Settings > Personalization > Fonts to choose a new one.

If you want to report this to Microsoft use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback and may interact with you. But Microsoft will not even see it here because this is a tech forums where we are mostly volunteers trying to help solve your problems.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
