Hi so i recently got gta san Andreas on steam from the summer sale, but once i installed it and tried to run it i got a message telling me to enable direct play in order to run the game, i enabled it, but it told me to restart my computer, i did it and i told me i need to enable it again. I then looked up another way to enable through turning programs on and off through the control panel, i enabled it through legacy components but told me once again i needed to restart my computer, i did and its still not enabled. Is there any way that i can enable through something else these are the only 2 solutions that i could find.

    Hello Elijah,

To better assist you, can you tell us if you are using Windows 10 version 1709? If so, I suggest that you first run the Windows Updates through this link. If the issue persists, I suggest that you boot your computer in safe mode and then try reinstalling DirectPlay by following these steps:

    1. To enable DirectPlay, press the Win key + R keyboard shortcut to open Run.
    2. Enter ‘Control Panel’ in Run, and click the OK button.
    3. Click Programs and Features to open the uninstaller utility.
    4. Click Turn Windows features on or off to open the window.
    5. Double-click Legacy Components to expand it.
    6. Select theDirectPlay checkbox.
    7. Reboot your computer after installing DirectPlay.

    Let us know the results.

Thanks for the update. Have you also tried my other suggestion, temporarily disabling your antivirus software? How did it go?

Some programs created for an older version of Windows might run poorly or not at all on Windows 10. I suggest running the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter to automatically detect and fix some of the most common issues. Be guided by the following steps:

    1. Enter the name of the program in the search box on the taskbar, press and hold (or right-click) the search result, and then select Open file location.
    2. Press and hold (or right-click) the program, select Properties, and then select the Compatibility tab.
    3. Select Run compatibility troubleshooter to run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.

If running the troubleshooter does not help, I highly recommend that you contact the game developer for workarounds or any suggestions that will help you run the game in Windows 10 platform.

I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if you need further assistance.

    Hi Elijah,

It's possible for your antivirus software to block DirectPlay. I suggest that you temporarily disable it and then try to enable DirectPlay to see if that's the case. Please note that if you have to temporarily disable your antivirus software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

If the issue persists, try running your game in compatibility mode. Here's how:

    1. Go to File Explorer.
    2. Open the folder that includes the game exe.
    3. Right-click the game’s exe and select Properties on the context menu.
    4. Select the Compatibility tab to open the compatibility settings.
    5. Click the Run this program in Compatibility mode for check box.
    6. Select an earlier Windows platform from the drop-down menu. Select the Windows OS that was the latest platform when the game launched.
    7. Select the Run this program as an administrator option.

Let me know how it goes.
