How to create a bootable CD in windows 10

Must be old school, but is there a way to create a CD in Windows 10 that is bootable. All the discussions that I have found talk about the ISO file for windows 10. I have a laptop that has an enterprise version of windows 7 on it, and I want to do a clean install of windows 10. From my past experience, I think that I need to create A BOOTABLE CD and then burn the ISO file to it as windows 7 does not support mounting ISO files.

    Hi RColio,

I would recommend you use Rufus to create the bootable media either using a CD/DVD. or a USB: https://rufus.akeo.ie/

Another option would be ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/

Note: This is a non-Microsoft website. The page appears to be providing accurate, safe information. Watch out for ads on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.

You can download the Windows 10 ISO from the following website, and then select this ISO in Rufus/ImgBurn: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/win...

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

    Hope this helps,

    Nathan

    Hi RColio,

My apologies for the ambiguous instructions.

I would recommend using ImgBurn in this instance.

    You essentially want to:

    • Download the Windows 10 ISO using the media creation tool
    • Download/install ImgBurn
    • Open ImgBurn
    • Insert disc into your CD/DVD drive
    • Select 'Write image file to disc'
    • Select the Source file by selecting the folder with a magnifying glass icon
    • Choose the ISO file downloaded from Microsoft's website
    • Confirm the Destination is pointing to your CD/DVD drive

This will create the Windows 10 bootable media on the disc.

    Hope this helps,

    Nathan

    **************** "Disclaimer" **************

We are forced to include this Standard boilerplate legalistic bafflegab disclaimer for any links to non-Microsoft websites:

(Short form: use these links at your own risk, just like everything else from MS!)

The link(s) to non MS-page(s) appears to be providing accurate, safe information. I suggest you stick with the “manual” instructions. Unless I explicitly suggest it, avoid downloading their “utilities”. Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it. Sometimes they include 3rd party programs, "unwanted" programs that are automatically installed during a standard install. So, if offered, do a "custom" install and carefully read each step. One of the steps MAY give you an option to install, or NOT, "additional" programs. 99.9% of the time you don't want to let them be installed. For example, when you install Adobe Player you are given the option of installing 2 additional "free trial" programs: Potentially Unwanted Programs: MacAfee Security Scan and MacAfee Safe Connect. The option to install is turned on, you have to manually turn it off. Those are PUP's. If you click "OK"/"Next" without paying attention you get the 2 "extra" programs.

As well, watch out for ads on the site. They may advertise products that include PUPs. Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.

Sure there is no limitation to create a CD/DVD bootable, but the thing is Windows 10 ISO would not fit on a DVD drive of 4.7 GB's as the ISO for 64 bit is around 4.9 GB's
