Windows 10 GPU Issue

Greetings.

I'm currently running Windows 10 on a MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid 2010). I'm facing a very severe issue in Windows, and I'm just done. I can't do it. I need help.

Every time I try to do something even remotely heavy in Windows 10, my display turns black and returns, only for me to see that the application that caused the crash has stopped working. I am familiar with this issue, as this also happened in Windows 7 when I installed it last week. "Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode Driver XXX.XX has stopped responding and successfully recovered". The message doesn't come up in Windows 10, but I know that the issue is the same. Another thing to note is that it also happens randomly on web browsers like Chrome (and also randomly when scrolling). Note that everything is I've spent TOO much time trying to solve this issue. This issue is NOT present on the macOS side.

Some of the uncountable solutions I've tried include: reinstalling graphics drivers, installing old drivers, reinstalling Windows 7, installing Windows 10, etc.

I want to utilize this MacBook for specific work, but macOS doesn't meet my requirements. So, I installed Windows. But this problem has been nagging me for weeks. I'm losing my mental stability, losing sleep, having trouble in my personal life- overall it's a very messy situation. I finally thought I should take this to a forum.

I'm sorry that anyone had to read this whole thing, but I really need help, so I tried to list the details. This is very important to me. Any help would be highly appreciated, trust me.

Took a break from this. Thought I'd come back later and finally settle things. So, today I decided to install build 1703. Results?

I'm just done. I've kept my cool for a long time, but now I'm just pissed. Didn't work, and I'm not aware of any other methods that work. I'm extremely desperate now. I don't wanna use MacOS. If you know any other methods, please inform me of them.

    Thanks for helping.

You are attempting to run Windows on probably what would be one of the most Anti-Windows brands there is. Apple is not concerned with optimizing their software for Windows, its actually of no benefit to them to do so.

They are very guarded with human resources and prefer allocating it to projects within the company that are mutually beneficial: macOS, iPad, iPhone, Apple TV.

So, yes, it might work to some degree on your configuration, which Apple themselves deem as vintage, but its just not officially supported.

Also, one of the important clauses in Windows 10's support agreement, Windows 10 is considered supported on your configuration only when the manufacturer supports it.

What I would do, is try using an older version of Windows 10, such as version 1703.

Yes, not the best news you want to hear. These feature updates are not thoroughly engineered and are rushed mostly to meet deadlines. They have become highly unnecessary in some instances. My opinion, focus on the apps and less on having the latest version of Windows. If your apps are working fine and you are getting your work done, minimize your need to jump on the latest release.

Now, get ready to go back to your previous version. I recommend Windows 10 1703 because its the most stable and efficient release to date.

Step 1: Go to another working computer with Internet access, download Windows 10 1703 from the following link:

    https://tb.rg-adguard.net/index.php?sid=74a7cf5...

    Choose the following:

    • Windows Final
    • Windows 10, version 1703
    • Windows 10 Pro + Home
    • English
    • x64 (64 bit) x32 (32 bit)

Step 2: create a bootable copy

Step 3: perform a custom install

Windows Update might attempt to upgrade to Windows 10 1803 again. See instructions how to block it:

    Hi, Andre.

I'm well aware of Apple's statement that Windows 10 is unsupported on my MacBook.

However, that's simply false (or poorly worded). They do not provide "direct" support. I've seen reports of other people who also run Windows 10 flawlessly on their "unsupported" MacBook. A bit of trickery is required.

And for clarification, I had installed Windows 7 the first time I used Boot Camp, instead of 10. And when 7 showed issues, I reinstalled it, but still got the same damn problems. So, I switched to 10.

Your MacBook Pro is not listed as supporting Windows 10 and that is likely why:

Mac computers that support Windows 10

The following Mac models support 64-bit versions of Windows 10 when installed using Boot Camp. Use About This Mac to see which Mac you have, then check this list to see if it supports Windows 10:

    MacBook Pro (2012 and later)

    MacBook Air (2012 and later)

    MacBook (2015 and later)

    iMac Pro (2017)

    iMac (2012 and later)

    Mac mini (2012 and later)

    Mac mini Server (Late 2012)

    Mac Pro (Late 2013)

Your best option is to reinstall Windows 7 or consider installing Windows 10 in a virtual machine.
