Lenovo T480 Windows 10 going to sleep unexpectedly while still in use

Recently I have been having a problem with my laptop going into sleep mode randomly even if I'm using it at the moment it happens. Sometimes it happens, once I turn it on, it doesn't happen anymore for a few hours. But sometimes it goes into sleep mode, I turn the pc on and it goes into sleep mode again immediately or a few seconds later, so I have to turn it on again with the possibility to go into sleep mode again, and so on, or just continue to work normally before it happens again a few hours later. It also goes to sleep while shutting, restarting pc or updating or even while in BIOS settings.

Troubleshooting steps done:

  1. Power & Sleep Options: Change sleep mode to never - Does not make any difference
  2. Updated display drivers

3.Change the motherboard of my laptop still issue persist.

  1. Formatted the Windows 10 but still sleep mode continues to haunt in new Windows 10 OS.

I'm using Lenovo T480 with Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bits and Intel i5 8th Generation processor.

This issue is getting in to my nerve, Help!!!!

    Hi Dave,

I am unable to solve the issue with the steps suggested by you.

Fast Startup option is not available in my Windows 10. The only options i have under shutdown Setting are Lock and Sleep.

Tried disabling and updating every drivers possible.

My system is updated. Double check twice and every drivers are working properly.

Moreover, I tried to change the power settings i.e Power Option>Change Plan Settings>Change advance power settings>PCI Express> Change to OFF state, and now the display blink for a second. And this keeps on happening after every 15-20 seconds. I have noticed one more thing that whenever display blink, my cursor come in the middle of the screen. Like it tries to go to sleep but some settings are stopping it.

Unable to find the exact cause of this issue.. Help!!

    Hi Vijay,

I have tried almost everything but it did not seems to help.

    1. Troubleshooting did not fix the issue.
    2. Restored, still not fixed
    3. This seems strange since I do not have any fast Startup option under Power settings.

The only options I have under Shutdown settings are sleep and lock.

    1. Disable battery drivers and reinstalled it.

What can I do more? Help!!

Hi M, this does seem to be a bug in Windows lately . . .

Click your Start Button, then just type Power Options

On the left, click 'Choose what the power buttons do'

At the top right, click 'Change settings that are currently unavailable'

Under 'Shutdown settings' disable 'Turn on fast startup'

Save that and close Control Panel

Open Device Manager (accessible by right clicking your Start Button)

    Expand the Batteries section

For each device in that section:

    Right click and choose Disable

Then right click and choose Enable

    Close Device Manager

    Open the Settings App

Go to Update & Security - Troubleshoot

    Run these troubleshooters

    Hardware and devices

    Power

There can be several causes but to start with, you can try following. Please try these options one by one and check after each option. (if you have desktop not laptop, then only 1 will be applicable)

    1. Troubleshoot Power

Type troubleshoot in Windows Start Search box > Click Troubleshoot > Scroll down > Click Power > Run the troubleshooter > Follow on-screen direction.

    1. Restore Default for Power Settings

Right click on battery icon in system tray > Power options > Click Change Plan Settings > Click Restore default settings for this plan

    1. Disable Fast Startup

Right click on battery icon in system tray > Power options > Click Choose what the power buttons do > Click Change settings that are currently unavailable > Scroll down to Shutdown settings and uncheck Turn on fast startup > Click Save changes

    1. Uninstall / Install Battery Driver

Shut down your computer > Detach power chord > Remove battery > Attach power chord > Reboot your computer

Windows Key+X > Device Manager > Expand Batteries > Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System > Uninstall > Shutdown the computer > Remove the power chord > Attach your battery > Attach your power chord > Reboot the computer to automatically install the driver
