How can I get my game to work on my Windows 10 PC?

Yesterday I installed Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone PC CD-Rom game and when I try to play it comes up with an error message. It states "Access Denied: Please login with administrator privileges and try again".

What do I need to do in order to resolve this in a simplified way?

    Open Start

    Type: cmd

    Right click CMD

    Click Run as administrator

    At the command prompt, type:

    net user administrator /active:yes

    Hit Enter

Close command prompt, restart, then try signing into the Administrator account.

    Try installing the game again.

This is a common erroneous error that Win10 tosses out when it invokes DRM Blocking on disc based games

that use SafeDisk copy protection.  Which is used by this and many other disc based games prior to around '07.

I have more details in my post at  ---this thread---

    • Short answer... You will need to use a noCD fix\hack ... Oops! Looks like a fix has not been made for his particularHarry Potter instalment.

Or... Maybe the Sorcerer's Stone is the same game ?

    • Option 2. Buy the game from an on line retailer... Hmm, doesn't look like that's happening either.

They don't have this series on Good old Games, The Humble Store, or EA Games and Steam.

I suppose that leaves you with an option to download the game from an abandonware site.

Somewhat risky though. Have to be careful of sypware and adware, & occasionally worse.

    • If you desperately need to play the game dual booting with Win7 would work (as long as you never install the security update

KB3086255 which sneaks DRM Blocking into Win7/8/8.1 ).

    • With Win10 you also need to verify that Direct Play is enabled. This is necessary for all games of this vintage.

    Look in...

Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off

Scroll down to and tic the box next to Legacy Components & Direct Play.

Click Apply and Sign Out if prompted (may not be necessary with v1803).

    Good morning Cursive,

Let’s try to enable the built in admin account in hopes to fix this.

Click start, type “cmd” - right click and run as admin

Then paste this command in there:

    net user Administrator/active: yes

    And hit enter.

Try the game again, let me know!
