Thanks for your assistance. As it turned out, I had changed a setting on my PC, which was causing me all my problems. I contacted Microsoft Tech Support, and they were able to discover the problem, fix it, and give me instructions to prevent the problem from occurring in the future. So, how do I share that information with the community?
Running CHKDSK /R in windows 8.1
is it necessary to turn off firewalls when running CHKDSK /R in windows 8.1? Because, whenever I try to run the program, it gets to 10%, and hangs up.

So go to start - settings - update and security - Recovery
Under advanced startup select Restart Now.
Then when it boots back up select troubleshoot and startup.
Then Safe mode.
Login and run the chkdsk to see if that works for you.

2018-07-13T19:36:48+00:00 Hi,
there in no any relation between chkdsk and firewall.
But what a need is to run chkdsk /r?
It is a system disk or another? How large is it? How long did you wait?
