I think I may have solved the problem. I have been using the "run as administrator" option with the scanning software and that seems to work.
Windows 10 Update - Epson GT-S50 Scanner Software Now Not Working
I have had an Epson GT-S50 high speed scanner for many years. After the most recent Windows 10 update about a week ago, I started having problems with it.
Basically, I get one scan each time I boot up the computer. After that, the Epson software crashes and won't restart. Sometimes it helps to unplug the scanner and plug it back it. So it seems like a software problem. It would be a shame to buy a whole new scanner over a software problem.
I tried deleting and re-installing the drivers and software and that did not help. Any suggestions?
Edit: Of course I tried updating the software and drivers.

2018-10-13T15:56:53+00:00 I too have a GT-S50. I've been experiencing the same problem since the last Windows 10 update or the one before. Don't need to scan too often so no sure exactly which windows 10 update kicked a perfectly good scanner into the trash bin.
This is defiantly a driver problem. I put the blame squarely on Epson. As a previous post stated this is a scanner that pro-ports to have a 100,000 scan maintenance cycle. It should last quite a bit of time in a SOHO. The software and driver for this is Epson Scan. The date for the driver as of today is still January of 2016. That's over 2 and a half years. I've tried multiple re-installs of the driver and software,. new USB cables and different USB ports. I came to the conclusion that the problem was a windows 10 update that killed the driver. After some internet searching of other forums where people complained about the same problem, now having found this thread my belief has been confirmed.
I have contacted Epson Support and logged a complaint. It would be great if everyone else would too. I'll try the run as administrator route and is if that helps. The only other solutions I've seen that seem to have provided a workaround is the following. I have not tried either of these yet myself.
Run a VM and using windows 7 and scan through it. (Pain in the ass and you need a copy of windows 7 or ave to buy it. at $120 for a retail copy might as well buy a new scanner for the little extra.)
Purchase a full blown document management software product that has updated TWAIN drivers or install some other software like GIMP that's free that might use its own driver.

2018-06-01T02:24:41+00:00 Hello guys,
We appreciate that you brought this up to the Community. It was also helpful that you're able to do the first actions right before you post. All of those steps that you've mentioned should have resolved the issue already, but it seem not. We can look at the compatibility of the software could be the reason.
Windows 10 had a major system upgrade. It would be best action to check for the software update, as well as with the latest driver version, which will all be available in the Scanner manufacturer's support site.
Meanwhile, you can also try Using Compatibility Mode. See this article and look for the section that says "Using Compatibility Mode to Resolve Driver problems".
Keep us posted.

2018-05-31T15:54:52+00:00 I have a client with about 5 of these scanners and they are all having the same issue. We tried a number of things and all seemed to work for a little but then they all failed.
I had the one user try NAPS2 with the WIA driver.
