Why can't I view my browsing history in Internet Explorer?

Why can't I view my browsing history in Internet Explorer? I'm using Windows 10. The box beside Delete History Upon Exiting is NOT checked. The only History option under Favorites is Search History but that doesn't do anything - I can't search browsing history either.

Set it up like this in Internet options.

First set this and apply settings.

Then I set mine like this, but I usually uncheck the top one when deleting them, delete them and check the top box again and apply.

Make sure the History is left unchecked.

I would also set up auto complete.

Make sure to apply all settings you make.

Also, there are settings in Settings>>Privacy

    that can effect many things.

Also if you sign in with your Microsoft account, then go here

    https://account.microsoft.com

    Select Privacy>>Activity history

here is your browsing history, search history etc.

    Hello,

I hope I can help you today

View browsing history and remove specific sites

When you check your browsing history, you can delete certain sites or return to web pages you've visited.

In Internet Explorer, select the Favorites button.

Select the History tab and choose how you want to see the history; To do this, select a filter in the menu. To remove specific sites, right-click on a site in these lists and then select Delete. Or, return to a page by selecting a site from the list.

    Change Internet Explorer settings

There are many changes you can make to customize your browsing experience in Internet Explorer. To see all the configuration options, open Internet Explorer on the desktop, select the Tools button and then select Internet Options.

    Reset Internet Explorer settings

You can restore the settings that Internet Explorer had when you installed it on the computer. This can be useful for troubleshooting problems that might be caused by some configuration that was changed after installation. Keep in mind that resetting Internet Explorer settings is not a reversible process and you will lose all the previous configuration.

Close all Internet Explorer windows. Select the Tools and Internet Options button.

Select the Advanced tab and then Reset.

In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, select Reset.

When Internet Explorer finishes applying the default settings, select Close and then OK. Restart the computer to apply the changes.

    regards

    Hi Greg,

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying I should do. I went back to my Favorites and clicked on History and I still only have the option to Search History (that's the only option in the drop-down menu under History).

    Thanks for quick reply.

    Lisa

Try opening  shell:History  and tell us what you see.  Usually this symptom means that the desktop.ini file is missing.  You can try to repair it by deleting the whole UserProfile History  directory.  It will be regenerated.  In fact, they have moved it.  Now it's  %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\History

Looks like I am remembering some implementation which is even older than 5 years

Hi Lisa. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

I just checked for you and if you're only showing Search history that means the dropdown menu at the top of that History tab has been set to Search History, so if you'll go there now you can change it to choices for View by Date, View by Order Visited, or View by Most Visited. These will be the actual history and not just Search History.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
