To add icons to your Desktop, it is pretty straightforward.
Right click on your Task bar > Show the desktop

Hi STANOBIEDZINSKI
In Windows 10, you have to take a roundabout to add new icons to your Desktop ...
On your Start Menu is an alphabetical list of installed applications
Scroll down to fin the applications you want to add to your Desktop
Right click each and choose 'Pin to Start'
That will put a new Tile on your Start Menu, drag that new Tile onto your Desktop to add a shortcut to your Start Menu
You can then delete the new Tile from your Start Menu
New Desktop
Hi Stano. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.
Right click an empty area of Desktop, choose Show Desktop Icons.
If this isn't enough then go to C:\Users\Your Use Name\Desktop to see if they're there. If not are you in a temporary account and your old account is shown there?
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
