USB speakers not recognized as new hardware

Hello,

I had asked an earlier question about my audio issue that has recently come up on my relatively-new Windows 10 machine. This problem has still not been resolved. In spite of the fact the audio returns to normal (or not) randomly each time the computer is restarted, I decided to move forward assuming that there is some sort of hardware problem.

So the PC can't find an audio device? what if I just add one? I bought some brand new USB speakers, and plugged them in. Nothing. No prompt or any indication of the presence of new hardware, and no change to the sound. The Playback tab of the sound menu still reads "no audio device is installed". Every online help I can find says I should go to the Playback tab and select the device, then hit "configure". Unfortunately, since the Playback tab says "no audio device is installed" there is nothing for me to select.

How do I get sound from my computer?

    Hello Gemzon,

Both were already running and set to automatic, but I restarted them and reset them just as you suggested.

Immediately after doing so, I checked the Device Manager. No change on that end, and the sound in general is unchanged.

    Nathan

Sorry for the delay, Nathan1123. It seems that some Windows components responsible for audio services are not working. To check, please perform the steps below:

    1. Type services.msc in Cortana, then tap Enter.
    2. Check the Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder service if both are in running status.
    3. Right click on each, then click on Restart.
    4. Right click on each again, then click on Properties.
    5. Set the Startup type to Automatic. Click on Apply, then OK.
    6. Check sound adapter again in Device manager or try playing any audio file.

    I'll wait for the result.

    Hi Nathan1123,

I've checked your previous post and found out that you've already tried several troubleshooting steps like SFC, reinstalling drivers, etc. I would like to get more information regarding this so we could further check and provide a more established workaround. Please answer the following:

    1. Have you made any changes on your computer prior to the issue?
    2. What is the make and model of your USB speaker?
    3. What is the current build and version of your Windows 10?
    4. Can you please verify if this is the make and model of your laptop?
    5. Can you provide a screenshot of your device manager (please expand Sound, video and game controller)?

To notify us and have us get back to you, simply reply to this post.
