I know windows 10 comes with some “tools” that can test or repair some errors on the computer. Could anybody please tell me what tools or Diagnostics are they and how can I find them?

    Hi Ge285

Most of the 'Tools' in Windows comprise of Troubleshooters that are built into Windows 10

Open the Settings App (gear icon on your Start Menu)

Go to Update and Security - Troubleshoot

There you will find the main troubleshooting tools

Are you having a specific problem with Windows 10, perhaps we can help!

DaveM121 says an unexpected shut down won’t damage the hard drive.

On the contrary, an unexpected shut down can absolutely damage your hard drive. That's why people (and businesses) buy a UPS (uninterruptible power supply.)

When your computer suddenly loses power, all work in process stops. Unsaved data is lost and your computer is left in an unstable state.

Running the CHKDSK command after an unexpected power cut - if your computer is still able to boot - will identify and try to repair damage to the file system. This may or may not succeed. Even if it does succeed, any unsaved data is permanently lost.

Windows has changed enormously since Vista. It's a mistake to think, "This is the way it was in Vista so it must also be true for Windows 10."

    Hi

Thanks for your reply. My windows 10 laptop quite often has shut down without notification. Although I have set low battery warning when battery power reaches 10%,  windows shuts down the computer  when battery level reaches 10%. Now this has happened quite a few times so I'd like to run a diagnostics tool that can fix any problems this unexpected shut down might have caused to the hard drive. As you know its not good for the computer to shut down without any warning notification. This could cause problems to the hard drive. This is the reason I asked you for diagnostic tools to check the hard drive.

    Hi

Thanks for your help. I have followed the instructions you provided. If it works I will let you know soon.

What I'd like to ask you if there is a tool that can check the hard drive. Because as I said in my previous post the laptop shut down unexpectedly quite a few times. As a result this might have caused some problems to the hard drive. So I'd like to check the hard drive itself. In windows vista there was a tool called CHDISCK if I'm right. I don't know in windows 10. There must be something.

    H Ge285, please try this:

Unplug your Laptop and remove the battery

Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds

Plug your laptop back in and replace the Battery

    Start your PC

Open Device Manager (accessible by right clicking your Start Button)

    Expand the Batteries section

For each device in that section:

    Right click and choose Disable

Then right click and choose Enable

    Close Device Manager

    Open the Settings App

Go to Update & Security - Troubleshoot

    Run these troubleshooters

    Hardware and devices

    Power
