Computer won't boot after installing last update

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad. Ever since I installed the last update on Tuesday, my computer won't boot. It gets partway through the process and then a boot error comes up. There is some kind of driver missing.

The only options the error page gives me is to continue to launch normally, or to try to Repair.  I cannot get the Command Prompt. When I click Repair, it eventually tells me that I have to reboot the machine from a Windows Installation disk. Correct me if I'm wrong--but won't running the Installation disk wipe my system and start me over from scratch?

I would really prefer not to lose everything on my machine because I allowed Windows Update to make changes to my machine.

    Hi AdriaKy

My name is Fernando. I am an Independent Advisor. I am here to guide you with a possible solution to your boot problem.

One option is you can try rolling back to the previous build. I would recommend reset Windows 10 keeping your files and apps . . .

    To do this

    1. Start your PC as Windows attempts to load and the spinning dots appear, press and hold Power Button for 5 - 10 seconds. This is known as a Hard Shut Down

    (Do this twice )

    1. Turn on your computer for the 3rd time and it should come up in the Recovery Environment
    2. You will be prompted for System Repair/Safe Mode/Command Prompt
    3. Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Revert to previous build of Windows
    4. If this is unsuccessful, go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Options - Reset this PC

Choose to keep your files and apps,

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask me any questions and let me know how it goes.

    Respectfully,

    Fernando Y.

Tried all of this. It didn't work. I've now been without my computer for three days, so I have to cut my losses and re-install my operating system.

Oh, and I'm turning off automatic updates, since trusting that was what caused this mess.

I'm on Windows 7, staring down the barrel of Microsoft forcing me to switch to Windows 10.

I'm done with Microsoft. Hey, I even worked at Microsoft in the late '90s, I started out sympathetic. But I am simply done with using a computer that I can't trust to work after the next round of updates. They lost me with Windows 8--I don't like the changes to the UX, and I refuse to allow Microsoft to spy on my with Windows 10.

    I'm all done.

My son has a really good gaming PC, with all the latest drivers etc, last time in September for half a day suffer after Windows update we could start the PC, this time after yesterdays update AGAIN his computer does not even boot. Can Microsoft do something with the idiot updates? Half a car's value that thing and seems we need to start from 0? ( i am quite good in computers since win 3.1 so we are not a bunch of bunnies here, just would be good to get value also for the money we spend for Microsoft)

None of your suggestions works. I tried to repair my windows, i tried system restore. Nothing works. The only reason i get into my windows is for a rescue disc that allows me to boot windows with the correct settings. Without it, the system cant even detect windows nor figure out where/what to boot.

Its crazy that so many people experience trouble with their cpu after windows update.. I googled around for solutions and it seems that MS dont have a clue, not this time and neither at earlier updates when people had same problems. You suggest so many diffrent things, none of them seems to work.. I hope MS comes up with a solution really fast. Having auto update turned on will never happen again..

    I an Acer Nitro 5, 64bit, i5-8252u, 1.60Ghz, 8Gb ram. Suggestions to fix this issue ?

    Hi AdriaKy

If you cannot access the Advanced Recovery Options from the Windows Recovery Environment, then the Installation Media is your best option

When you boot from the Installation Media choose 'Repair this Computer', the repair will fail, but your should then get the Advanced Options (which are non-destructive to your data) like:

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - System Restore

Check to see if you have a restore point you can go back to

If you do not have a Restore Point, go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Startup Settings and click Restart

Upon restart, press 4 to enter Safe Mode

Once in Safe Mode, backup your data if you do not already have a backup

Open Device Manager and check to make sure all your Drivers are up to date

Reboot to see if Windows will start Normally

If the above fails, go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Options - Reset this PC

Choose to keep your files and apps, just your files or to keep nothing

    Then start the Reset

If you do not have Installation Media:

    Click this link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool
