    Hi Dave

Thanks so much for your reply.

Before I has to change my computer a few days ago (I was using Windows 10 and I'm still on Windows 10), I used a simpler method for screen shots which worked perfectly for me: Alt+Print screen and then I pasted the image on a Word document.

This solution does not work any longer and I don't understand the reason why and I would like to find the way to use it again.

If anybody knows how to, I would greatly appreciate their assistance.

I found the solution. I suspected that the problem was related to the new keyboard that came with my new computer (Dell Inspiron 5000). I connected the old keyboard and now there's absolutely no difficulty in copying the active screen to Word with the simple expedient of clicking Alt+Print screen and then Ctrl+V into Word.. It's the simplest way of doing that and I don't see a valid reason for the newer and worse procedure.

I think it's yet another instance of manufacturers offering worse products with every new version of a system.

My thanks again to all of you for responding so promptly and generously to my question.

    DG

    Hi Robert

Thanks so much for your message, but it still doesn't work for me, it's a real infuriating mystery.

    Hi Dave

Another thing. I don't understand:  according to instructions everywhere, to get a screen shot of the active window you have to click Fn+Print screen.  For me that does not produce the desired result, I get a copy of my WHOLE screen, not of only the active screen.

And all this has happened with my new computer, which again has Windows 10.

Hi DGuma, to have more control over the screenshot and saving the file, your best option is to use the Snipping Tool in Windows 10

Click your Start Button, type snip and hit Enter - this will open the Snipping Tool

Set Mode to Window Snip, then click New to take a screenshot

Save that file to your Desktop and close the Snipping Tool
