Earbud mic not working

I recently got some red Skullcandy Ink'd earbuds. My headset broke, so I needed a temporary placeholder for a mic. I thought the mic on the earbuds would work out. They don't. I plugged them into the microphone jack on my computer, and I cannot get it to pick anything up. It does pick something up when I shake it, but not when I speak or blow into it.

The thing is, it doesn't seem like it's the earbuds that are the problem. The microphone works perfectly fine on my phone. It just doesn't work on PC. Any help?

I tried everything that you told me to. The microphone still does not pick up any sound I make. I tried the troubleshooter and there was no outcome.

If there is no solution to this, it's fine. I'm getting a new headset anyway. I just wanted to get this microphone to work for the time being.

    Hi legoj14,

Do you see the microphone on the Recording tab of Sound properties? If not, please check with these settings by following these steps:

    1. Right-click the volume icon on the taskbar and select Recording Devices.
    2. In the Recording tab, look for green bars rising as you speak into your recording device. If the bars are moving, your device is connected and working properly.

If the device isn't there, it's possible that the microphone isn't set up yet. Try these steps to install microphone:

    1. Right-click the volume icon on the taskbar and select Recording Devices.
    2. In the Recording tab, select the microphone or recording device you'd like to set up. Select Configure.
    3. Select Set up microphone, and follow the steps of the Microphone Setup Wizard.

You can also try the Recording Audio troubleshooter. These are the steps:

    1. Press Windows key + I on your keyboard to open Settings.
    2. Click Update & Securtiy, and then click Troubleshoot on the left-hand pane.
    3. Look for and click Recording Audio, then click Run the troubleshooter.

Update me if there are improvements.

Thank you for the update. Have you made sure that the port you're inserting the jack into is for both audio and mic? Try to check if it's usable for both. It can be possible that the port isn't for mic. Also, if after you've changed your hardware and the issue would still persist, let me know by replying to this thread or creating a new one. I'll be more than happy to help.

I'll be waiting for your updates.
