Dear MS team,

my web cam stopped working after latest Windows update and despite all my effort to make it work again - i wasn't able to resolve the issue.

let me name the few of the troubleshooting steps that i've tried so far.

  • update the driver in device manager
  • rollback driver / uninstall & install again
  • install new youcam driver from HP webpage
  • install chipset & bios
  • fully reinstalled Windows

I've generated this report for you in case you'd need additional info - should you require additional information I'm at your disposal!

I have the same issue on both my win 10 PC's.  With two different camera devices that use the usbvideo.inf driver.  I spent hours researching this problem already, and there is no solution to be had. It seems that the driver stopped working after a windows update in all cases.  I can not confirm this is the case for me, since I bought two different types of cameras, neither of which work with the before mentioned driver. Perhaps I already had the updated/faulty driver, therefore both cameras never worked.

    Hello,

Thank you for providing me a detailed information of your concern and it seems that you've almost tried every possible troubleshooting steps to correct the issue with your camera. I would like to verify if you're getting any error messages when trying to launch your Camera.

Moreover, please make sure that your camera is the selected video/capture device for your webcam software. In YouCam, your camera should be selected as the Capture device. Though, this is just a simple step but gives an impact if its not configured correctly.

As future Windows 10 feature updates are released it may introduce incompatibility on drivers, hardware and programs with older devices and PC's. Some of the recommendations are performing a rollback and blocking the upgrade until it matures with future cumulative updates or fixes for the said issues.

To perform a rollback,  press Windows key + I to open Settings > Update & security > Recovery > under Go back to my previous version of Windows 10, click Get started.

Windows Update may attempt to upgrade to the latest build, you can block the upgrade by downloading and running the Show or Hide Updates tool (wushowhide.diagcab). This will help you prevent the feature updates from being installed. You can download the tool from this article.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Regards.

Thank you for getting back to me. Now that you were able to successfully performed a roll back. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your webcam's driver? If not, you may refer to the steps below:

    1. Press Windows key + R, then type in devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
    2. In the Device Manager window, expand the Imaging device category.
    3. Right-click on your installed camera, then select Uninstall.
    4. Reboot your computer.

Also, when you try to launch your camera; do you receive any error messages and does the issue also happens to all applications that requires the use of your camera?

Will be waiting for your response.

    Regards.

Thank you for the prompt response. Since you've mentioned that the option to perform a rollback via Settings app is no longer available on your device, I'd suggest to try manually downgrading to the previous version of Windows 10 (1709), you can find the necessary files and steps from Andre Da Costa's answer in this thread.

    Update me on the outcome.

    Regards.

    HI,

thank you so much for coming back to me with potential solution.

Unfortunately the recovery option didn't give me a possibility to go back to previous version of Windows 10 - only a fresh install by removing all my personal files and starting with a fresh copy of Windows - which i did two times.

I'm open to any new suggestions from your end.

    Thanks in advance,

    Boris Ilic
