autoclick feature

Hello,

I'm thinking about switching to Windows 10 but first I'd like to make sure that the "autoclick" feature available. This feature makes the computer perform a (left) mouse click whenever the mouse cursor stops. Then it is not necessary anymore to click manually.

I chatted with the official Windows 10 support and they said that this feature is indeed available:

"Once you go to windodws 10 settings > ease of access option > from there you can see the option to manage it."

(if you want to I can attach the screenshot of the chat).

I went to a friend who owns Windows 10 computer (Version 1803), but I was not able to find the option.

Could you help me please and confirm that this option is available and make it more explicit where this option can be found (maybe a screenshot?). I don't know why I don't see this option..

Thank you!

in short, no, "Autoclick" is not a feature of windows 10.

however, I cannot recall that being a feature in previous versions of windows, are you sure it's not a third party program (there are a few around)?

I have just had a look in Windows 7 and the nearest I can find to what you describe is "activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse" but that will not perform a left click on a button when the mouse stops. this feature IS still available in windows 10 , through control panel -> ease of access -> make the mouse easier to use.

can you give us more information about how it works and perhaps a screen shot of the settings page or where you are currently able to activate the feature.

thank you for your reply. I probably should have mentioned this, right now I am using Linux (Ubuntu) and there this feature is available out of the box (https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/a11y-dwellclick.html.en). I'm aware that several software product offer this feature but there are employers who don't allow installing additional software products due to security concerns. Therefore, it would be a huge help if Windows could offer this out of the box in the future. I hope this will happen in the future

I hadn't thought about that it may restrict you to the language for you locality

you could add it again in your language

here is a copy, reword it as you wish

    Hover Click Feature (Autoclick)

Ubuntu has a feature that makes the computer perform a (left) mouse click whenever the mouse cursor stops so that it is not necessary anymore to click manually.

    screenshot of settings https://i.imgur.com/MIXJKvc.png

I chose a small delay (a click is performed almost immediately when the cursor stops) and a short threshold which allows a faster and more precise workflow compared to higher

delay / threshold values. High delays / thresholds values are useful when one starts to learn how to use this feature because it takes a bit of time to get used to it in terms of moving the cursor precisely to the point where it should be.

I think it would be a great feature to come with Windows 10 out of the box. People with disabilities who struggle with using a physical button on a mouse to click (e.g. if you suffer from RSI each click hurts) RSI sufferers and those with other accessibility issues would greatly benefit from this.

now I understand, (and don't feel quite as stupid as I did) the best I can suggest is that you use your friends windows 10 computer to make the suggestion to the windows development team by using the feedback hub

I probably shouldn't, but, if you wish, I will make the suggestion for you using the description above and post you a link so that you can vote and or comment when you next have access.

I have posted the feedback, when you get the opportunity you can use this link to check it and add any further comments, may only work with windows 10

    https://aka.ms/AA2p7ku

with luck it will get lots of votes and Microsoft will add it, unfortunately we can't say if or when they will consider it
