Media Creation Tool Windows 10

Hello--I asked this in another posting.

When there is a good copy of version 1809, I will need to use one of the Library's wired internet systems to save the 1809 feature upgrade installation files to a USB Flash drive.

Last March I saw the options for MCT, which had a section for this PC and one for saving the installation file for another PC.

I had d/l'ed the Medial creation tool on my notebook and ran tried to run it on the Library wired system, but it did not run stating elevated privileges were needed.

As I am only saving the installation file to USB Flash drive,  the UAC should not come into play until I take the flash drive to my notebook and run the installation file saved.

Maybe I should have selected to get the installation media for another on the Library's system and run the tool at that time to save installation to JUSB Flash drive.

    Hello!

IS your question on how exactly to download the tool?

You are correct and you will need to select Create installation media for another PC

You can also use rufus for making a bootable usb and it will do everything for you. Should not need the UAC prompt.

You may have the wrong idea about the Media Creation Tool. The tool you downloaded last March will not work for 1809 when it is available, you will have to download and run the MCT for 1809 from

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

When you run the MCT it will give the options to create bootable media for another PC and it will download the image file during the process of creating the boot media. You cannot use the MCT to create boot media from an ISO you have already downloaded. It gives you the option to download the ISO instead but then you have to create your own boot media manually using either Rufus or DISKPART commands.

Hello---Once I have the Windows Upgrade ISO saved using the Library wired system I am unsure of how to use the MC Tool and the ISO file.

Would I copy the Windows Update ISO and the MC Tool to the same subdirectory on the notebook and run MC Tool?  Will the Tool see and use the already saved ISO to create the installation media on a Flash drive?

I did find how to see the Windows ISO's on the Microsoft Windows 10 download page.

    check my page: MP3XUP

I'll repeat, you cannot use the Media Creation Tool and a downloaded ISO image file together. The Media Creation Tool will either download a ISO file, create boot media or update the current device it is running on.

What is DaveM121 talking about in a reply to me on 10/9 in this tread?  He states that a Windows ISO could be saved using one of the Library's wired machines, which could later be used to create the installation media later on my notebook with the Tool from MS.  He states that tool will use the saved ISO.

As I have read the MC Tool is for the times to create boot media on USB or DVD, save a ISO.  It also has two parts.  One for updating the PC in use to get the Tool.  And a section for getting the getting the tool to create media for another PC.

The Library's wired machine has a much faster throughput than the wireless connection.  So it would not take long to save the 4.5Gb Upgrade ISO.

How does the ISO get into a usable installation, if the MC Tool can not do it?  I know the installation media is made bootable and it also puts a setup.exe on the media.

I really would not want the upgrade being forced because I do not have a good stable fast internet connection.  And no other location where I would be able to leave the notebook unattended to get the Upgrades.

Hi DickC1978 Use this method to download the ISO at the library, you can then later create the Installation media once you have the ISO

Click this link to download the Windows 10 ISO

    https://tb.rg-adguard.net/public.php

Click this link to download a tool from Microsoft which you can use to create the bootable installation media from that ISO - tool works for Windows 7, 8 and 10
