Nokia OVI maps - delete maps from the phone offline

Hi,

I was using a Nokia E52 handy some years ago with a Symbian S60 3rd edition OS. Its stock navigation software was Nokia OVI maps 3.03. I was using the Nokia OVI Suite PC app to load offline maps to the phone. The downloaded maps went into the "/cities" folder on the SD card.

As the old Nokia map servers have been turned off for some time, updating the maps is no longer possible. It's even impossible to download maps at all anymore. However, I just wanted to free up some space on the phone and tried to delete some of the country maps. I realized that the downloaded maps cannot be deleted, because this menu is not available in Nokia OVI suite anymore. When I click on this menu, it tries to connect to the map servers and since it's unsuccessful, it hides the option to delete maps and navigation voices. Why should it connect to any server to delete a local offline map? It makes me think that the file/folder structure inside of the /cities folder is not directly contry-based and it requires some online help to identify which countries belong to which file. This could explain why the contry maps cannot be deleted without being online. Is my suspection right at this point? Is there any way to delete some of the countries from my phone?

Thanks!

You can source UAE map data here if you click left hand of two links for Wayback archive:

    http://web.archive.org/web/20170410161531/http://mp107.xaa.pl/nokia_maps_v_00.01.29.100.html

ClientIndex(POI) here, similarly click left hand of the two links:

    http://web.archive.org/web/20170410161533/http://mp107.xaa.pl/nokia_maps_poi_00.01.29.100.html

    Voices here:

    http://web.archive.org/web/20170410161540/http://mp107.xaa.pl/nokia_maps_voices_v_00.01.29.100.html

Did you try opening Nokia Ovi Maps application to create the appropriate cities folder on memory card or did it crash immediately.? Did you decompress both Asia.zip and ClientIndex to cities/diskcache folder?

    Hi Joe,

I know my question is out of scope of Microsoft Community, but I will highly appreciate you could also help me.

I recently did a factory reset to my Nokia E52 and formated the SD card as well.

Now I am unable to install/use OVI maps.  Copying city cache folders found on internet also did not help.

is there any possibility that I can install and use Asia maps (specificaly UAE maps)

    best regards,

    khalid

What a difference one week makes as it now looks as if map server has been permanently disconnected. It would seem that the German car maker consortium whom purchased HERE has decided that support has gone on quite long enough.

Sorry, this link won`t work anymore! There is not another possibility to find offline ovimaps??? After factory reset I have not maps anymore installed on my phone (E-71). Sorry but I did not see another mobile OS company I used in the past to be so unserious about their former phone users! Not any support anymore, not any old site, remained really nothing on internet as nothing existed - like all what was old Nokia went suddenly to garbage and became dust after we used it maybe somewhere in the... 80-s and not, as I still remember, even 4-5 years ago, with sites, support etc! There are until now people who need to (re)install ovi (nokia)maps on their old Nokia phones and they still use! And not everybody must use now obligatory the androids! New Nokia site and its products, I see has nothing in common with the old.
