Logitech MX Anywhere 2S - Bluetooth or Unifying Receiver questions...

I have yet to install this mouse.  I have been wondering which method is "better".

Using their unifying receiver.   Or connecting it with Bluetooth.  If I go Bluetooth I will need to purchase a dongle since my pc will need one to work.

Is it worth the added expense of buying one if I have a dongle that came with the mouse?

The receiver only works with Logitech devices, but is free.  Or installing a Bluetooth dongle that I have to buy separately but will work with other things as well.

Is the Logitech software really needed to install and use the mouse?

Thanks

it was a long time ago but I think I did install the software first, however I have since reinstalled (clean install) windows, the mouse and keyboard were working before I re-installed the software.

I would install it the way Logitech says, you can uninstall the software later in settings, if you wish, the drivers will remain.

you could try an extension lead to bring the dongle onto the desk to see if there is any improvement but sounds like its getting worn out.

    forgot to mention

it may be the fact that my Bluetooth dongle was just a cheapy but I find the signal is weak if plugged into the rear usb ports (assume its the metal case between dongle and user) the unifying receiver has no such problem. - plugged in at back and forgotten

is it worth extra expense? No! (IMO)

It does look worn out on the front.  It does get used almost daily for hours.

Have had the mouse for about a week.  Should install it and use it.

With it's rechargeable battery, I not have to keep getting batteries for it for a while.

    Thanks

Do I need to install the software first before plugging in the mouse?

They claim that I need to.

I have a keyboard and mouse with the unifying receiver - it just works, never had an issue. plug it in, setup mouse and keyboard the way I want and forget it, I have changed batteries, turned them off etc. turn it on again and it just works.

I also have a Bluetooth dongle sat in the drawer I occasionally use it for other devices.

you can set it up now with the unifying receiver that you have and change your mind later if you get a Bluetooth dongle (you wont)

the logitech software is not really needed, windows will find drivers from microsoft, but the software does give that extra bit of customisation.
