Don't think you'll get good performance in Windows 10 from an unsupported, 18-year old application. Instead, follow these steps:

1- Create a virtual machine (e.g., Hyper-V, Virtual Box, VMWare Workstation Player.) There are detailed, illustrated instructions on the internet.

2- In the virtual machine, install Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7.

    3- Install FSX.

I believe that it might install in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP. That is probably the only hope.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 was the last of the Flight Simulator series to support the Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 operating systems.

This is how to install in Compatibility Mode. Select XP when you get to that step.

    Remove CD/DVD disk from drive.

First, disable auto play when inserting a CD/DVD here:

    Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\AutoPlay

    Select>>Do Nothing

Then sign out and back in.

If you have a stand-alone installer file and No CD/DVD, then ignore this step.

Now you need to check and uninstall any prior good or failed installation from here

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features

    Restart PC.

Now this is how to install using compatibility mode for the operating system it is intended for.

    Using a CD/DVD

Inset the disk in the drive, now it will not auto play from you disabling it. (If you did)

    Open THIS PC Location

right click on the CD/DVD drive and select>>Open Folder Location

Now you are in the CD or DVD folder.

Now locate the installer file, usually like SETUP.EXE as an example.

Now right click on the installer file and select>>Troubleshoot Compatibility.

In the compatibility Wizard, follow the detailed steps with photos midway down the page in my article on the link below.

This is how to install in compatibility mode for a successful install. But you are trying for a program prior to XP. So good luck. Make sure to restart PC if you can get it installed.

Hi there Don, youre gonna need to install this program in compatibility mode as it does not run well (or at all) on Windows 10.

Locate the executable file (.exe file) for the driver installation program.

    b. Right-click the file, and then click Properties.

    c. In the Package Name Properties dialog box, click the Compatibility tab.

    d. Click to select the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box, click Windows 8 with which it is compatible with in the Run this program in compatibility mode for list, and then click OK.

    e. Double-click the executable file to start the installation program.
