I solved the problem by downloading the sound driver for Windows 8 from Packard Bell and installing it under Windows 8 compatibility mode.
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
No sound at all from this laptop after upgrade.
I've tried using Windows update but the drivers fail.
RealTek driver says it is incompatible (tried in compatibuility mode too).
There are no audio drivers on the Packard Bell support pages/

If the issue persists can you open the Device Manager and expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
