Hello!

I have come here out of desperation. So i took out my old laptop HP Probook, 4431s, Base Model, i5 2450m, 8gb ram, intel hd 3000 & amd radeon hd 7400m. I upadated to windows 10 from 7, was working fine until my laptop updated windows 10, then all the issues started. 1st while restarting my computer, the boot was stuck on spinning dots (frozen), took me 1 month to figure out it was the graphics issue. Since then i have clean installed windows 7 and 10 and still whenever i install the intel/amd drivers, the screen freezes to black. Right now i am on windows 10 and still when ever i try to install the drivers the screen freezes to black. HP does not have drivers for widows 10 for this laptop (as this is old), i tried installing the original drivers by compatibility mode still not happening, tried unfl drivers still not happening, sometimes the driver is installed but ccc says no drivers, this is messed up, i cant play games anymore, please help me figure it out, really would love to see it get fixed.

I notice that your SysInfo shows two display adapters, and that one of them has MS Basic Driver which is never meant to be used for any more than a placeholder until a decent driver is found. Is this the AMD device shown on the HP Downloads page for your Serial here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservic... ?

Doe the notebook actually have dual graphics?

If necessary you can trace the device make/model using it's Hardware ID as shown here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Did you also try the older drivers stored in the Device manager for Display device, which was one of the steps I gave above. The driver which actually worked should be stored there unless it was wiped out. Go there now to try all previous drivers.

It's important to try all steps I gave again to try to find a good driver. What does the AMD Autodetect find?

Did you perform these steps for drivers in Compatibility Mode? https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/win...

    Hi Greg,

Thanks for the quick response. I have been stuck at this driver issue for 2-3 months now, i have clean installed win 7 and 10, 2 times each still no solution. I have tried the steps you mentioned. Unfortunately, the only thing new on the hp website is the bios update, which i did. I downloaded and installed the original win7 graphic driver in compatibility mode still the black screen. The screen just goes black and freezes, the sound freezes too. Same when i update from windows update and amds official site.

amd graphics driver were working perfectly few months ago, when one day when i started my laptop and the windows boot screen rotating dots froze and the problem started. I have tried every possible solution, still nothing happening. I cant play games or edit videos.

    My laptops details are:

    HP Probook 4431S Base Model

    Serial No. CNU22113QK

Hi Amit. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

I'll give you everything possible that can be done to find a working Display driver:

Update the Display driver from the PC maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS, network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

if this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...

or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...

or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers. There are even more steps here for Updating a driver including tracing the hardware on unknown devices: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

If you'll report back the PC serial and DIsplay make and model, and the hardware ID, I will help you search.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
