What Are Radeon Settings And Why Are 6 Opening Every Time I Start My Computer?

What are Radeon Settings, and why do 6 open every time I start my computer?  I never chose to install it, so I am assuming it was part of the last update I got, because they appeared right after that update.  They show up in my hidden icon tray, and there are 6 of them.  If I try to open them they do not open so I can't close them.  They are also slowing down my computer a lot with most things I am trying to do.

They also seem to be blocking other programs from opening.  As an example, if I do not open Steam as soon as my desktop loads it generally does not open.  I never had this problem before these Radeon Settings appeared.  I end up having to restart my computer, and opening Steam as soon as my desktop loads just to be able to open it.

Hi Allyka. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

That's driver bloatware that you can uninstall or at least turn off at Startup since nothing needs to start with Windows except Windows itself and maybe a sync or scanner on standby. All others are freeloaders that can cause issues and use resources affecting performance.

If you go into Settings > Apps > Apps & Features and look for the software, check if there is a Modify or REpair button for it other than just uninstall. This may also be an AMD or Radeon Install Manager. You want to modify the installation to include only the driver and nothing else since it's all unneeded bloatware.

But more importantly turn off all AMD Radeon in the four places where Startup freeloaders nest, covered in Step 4 of this Performance checklist: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

If you have any questions about these or any other startups you want answered before deleting them, either google them to find out what they are (not needed in 95% of cases) or ask back here with a screenshot so we can see what you're talking about: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/o...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Right click on System Configuration result in Search to Run as Admin.

You can turn off all Task Mgr Startups except Defender and OneDrive if you use it to sync files.

I'd just leave the AMD as is in App Settings. If you have a tray icon for it you can right click to access Settings to turn it off at Startup. But it sounds like you already did that.

Hi Greg, thank you for the info.

Step 4 went slightly differently then it says on the link. I typed msconfig and opened System Configuration.  I do not have to choose to Run as Administrator, I don't even actually see the option.  I did go to the Services tab, clicked the Hide all Microsoft services button and disabled everything else in that tab, and I did open the Startup folder and it was empty.  Is that correct and I just have a slightly different version of windows then in that article?

I also followed the Settings > Apps > Startup, there are 7 programs there.  I turned Steam off, it does not need to open on start up.  There is also HD Audio Background Process, HP Message Service, Microsoft One Drive, Realtek HD Audio Manager, Realtek WOWL Utility, and Windows Defender notification icon.  Should I turn any of those off or leave them?

In Settings, Apps, Apps & features the program AMD Software has the same symbol as the ones in my hidden icon tray.  Only it is grey instead of red.  When I click modify I have 4 options, AMD HDMI Audio Driver, AMD PSP Driver, AMD SMBus Driver and AMD Start Now Technology ACPI Driver.  There is no repair option.

Also based on what just happened I am hoping I did everything needed.  There was 8 of the Radeon Setting icons in my hidden icon tray, I just opened it and went to hover over them, and they all disappeared.

Thank you so much for the reply and easy to follow steps in the article you wrote.

    Hi Allyka

Radeon settings would be related to your video card device software

You should go to the support page for your device on the manufacturers website, then download and install the video card device driver and associated software they recommend to resolve this for you . . .
