I updated the PC Suite today. Now the PC Suite fails to connect to E71 in PC Suite mode. It keeps saying the phone has been connected in 'non-compatible mode'.

I had the same problem with 'non-compatible' mode and I solved it by installing the Nokia connectivity cable driver 7.1.182.0 as NikosLitos wrote.

Previously I had the driver 7.1.180 delivered with Nokia PC Suite. So I reinstalled the newer version and it works!

    Thank you, NikosLitos.

If you can connect your phone to your PC so that you can browse your memory card, etc - but Nokia PC Suite (or OVI Suite) will not recognise your phone, make sure you have the Windows Service called 'Service Layer' (it doesn't seem to have a description, but if you look in the Properties of this service you will see that the executable is "C:\Program Files (x86)\PC Connectivity Solution\ServiceLayer.exe") - make sure this service is 1) started and 2) set to start automatically. This MAY require a restart of your PC. Make sure the service is running ('started'); restart PC Suite and reconnect your phone. This solved the problem I was having with PC Suite not seeing my (USB-connected) Nokia E72.

Yea, this also happened to my E72.

After installing the NSU (nokia software updater), then the phone wouldn't connect at all to the pc in pc suite mode. Then I had to uninstall the NSU and pc suite, and reinstalled the pc suite only.

I thought it was because i use pc suite, it turned out that ovi suite has the same issue.

Yes, i have sent an e-mail to nokia support. Their response was disappointing, only telling me to uninstall reinstall.

i doubt it is the USB ports. I have troubleshot an item ee'ons ago and it was once, i heard from a fat cousin, the usb port...let me know if that works.

i am having the same problem. im on windows xp 32 bit home, fw 410.21.010 e71-2. anyway, after many reinstalls, i have solved the problem a little in the sense that after uninstalling everything, and using the pcsuite cleaner and uninstalling ovi music and everything to do with ovi and pcsuite and cable drivers from my xp uninstall function and then going to the regedit and deleting from the CURRENT USER and LOCAL MACHINE, anything to do with nokia and pc connectivitiy cables, and then using ccleaner to clean everything and then a reboot and reinstall of the latest pc suite, DO NOT INSTALL THE 'UPDATE PHONE SOFTWARE' manager. i dont know how the phone is going to check for new FW, but for now, i can use pcsuite and will worry about updating the fw if and when nokia releases anything new, in the future. i took this opportunity to make better sense of my contacts and calendar and have set the sync function so i can sync with ovi - my contacts, calendar, notes.

pc has been very unreliable for me and my two e71's and e65.
