Why this Wi-Fi Calling ER04 DNS Error on my smartphone at home and sometimes out in public?

Sometimes at home or out somewhere, but not always or even very often, I get a noise & vibration on my Windows 8.1 smartphone and then by sliding down the main screen, I see Wi-Fi Calling ER04 DNS Error. This has happened when I’m sitting 2’ from the wireless router at home and also over at a restaurant that I spend a lot of time at as I'm just killing time and messing around on Facebook (FREEB!RD’s World Burrito) . I think it has also happened in a few other places but I'm not sure.

They have a FREE WI-FI sign on their door to bring in more happy customers.

Is this a weak Wi-Fi router signal strength deal or am I just too far from the wireless router and if neither of those, then what is this all about?

I have WI-FI CALLING set ON and I have it set with Cellular Preferred.

I see this when I slide the main screen down on my Windows 8.1 Nokia Lumia 635 to see Settings. When I look at this as it is happening, it seems as if it has one about every 3 minutes.

If you put your phone into airplane mode for 5 seconds, then take it back out of airplane mode, it will reattach to both the WiFi and cellular networks. This worked for me, and it's faster than powering the phone off and on again.

All 4 of us in my family keep losing the Wi-Fi signal completely even if we're standin just 3' away from the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router AC-1750 that isn't that old. I've had to turn it off by unplugging it for a minute several times the past few days. I'd like to access is to upgrade the firmware as I've read people say that is what fixed it for them but this stupid router won't even let me into it to do that. It blocks me endless with something called a 'router password' and I've tried virtually EVERY password that I've ever used for anything.

So then below that, it offers a user to Login Using Smart but that thing rejects me since it says that an account already exists for my common email address that I use for stuff like this.

I CREATED AN ACCOUNT - v************@outlook.com and *-*-jad using this link http://192.168.1.1/ui/1.0.99.166281/dynamic/create-account.html and when logging in, next it asks for ‘ASSOCIATE (their grammar not mine) ROUTER’ password but leaving it blank or using admin or any of our common ones don’t work. I still can’t login to it after setting that up since I don’t know my Router’s password and nothing works. To access your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account later, go to: http://linksyssmartwifi.com  and then scroll down below the boxes and click

TO LOGIN WITH YOUR LINKSYS SMART WI-FI ACCOUNT, CLICK HERE.

I guess I've gotten to the point where the only way for me to upgrade the firmware to try to make this router stop dropping the signal to our 4 smartphones is for me to hit the RESET button on the router and start all over? This is aggravating as heck.

That happened with me on Motorola phone; all I did was turn it off and back on again and it worked fine.

I went upstairs to work in the room next to the Linksys AC 1750 SMART Wi-Fi Router just after noon and the ER04 DNS ERRORs have stopped on my phone. But my wife & son have been losing internet on their phones downstairs for the last few hours. They are both sitting in the room where I have a two week old TP-LINK Wi-Fi Booster that's been working really well to keep us Connected downstairs.

I hit Reset on the router & I even unplugged it for a while. Now, after plugging it back in, their wi-fi is working downstairs on their smartphones. One is an iPhone and the other an Android.

Thanks Brian. This hasn't happened to me for a really long time & it was even 2 phones ago. I replaced my Windows 8.1 Nokia Lumia 635 with a Windows 10 Nokia Lumia 950 which I then killed by falling into my pool with it in my pocket. I got another unlocked one on eBay and slipped my T-Mobile sim card in and it works pretty good. I say "pretty good" since these Microsoft phones can be a bit temperamental. 😉

I'm sure they're on there deathbed since the Facebook APP icon now just opens m.facebook.com which is even weirder since it still has a banner at the bottom of the News Feed on EDGE telling you to "Install Facebook on your Lumia 950 and browse faster".
