installing msstdfmt.dll file on my pc

on installing a flight simulator program, I'm getting a Runtime Error 713 saying I need the following file installed on my machine:  msstdfmt.dll.  I've run sfc/scannow Command Prompt 3xs and it did not find any integrity violations.  Ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Restore Health.  Results said restore operation completed successfully and the operation completed successfully.  Ran sfc/scannow again with no integrity violations.  Tried opening my program with same runtime error.

So, if the above is accurate, I need the .dll file and where to install it.  Where do I go from here?  Mike Nicholson

    Hi, Thunderbolt44,

Did you get the flight simulator program from a reputable source?

Have you searched your system for MSSTDFMT.dll?

It may be necessary to move it to SysWOW64 folder and register it.

    1. Right click on Start > Select PowerShell (Admin)

Copy/paste the following into the window then Press Enter

    regsvr32 /i MSSTDFMT.DLL.

This will re-register the .dll file

    1. Run Windows Update > Scan for Updates several times

Ensure you install all important updates

    1. Run the following Scans

    Hi Smittychat,

I appreciate your reply.  Here is some background.  I have  Windows 10 64bit.  Up until around three weeks ago, I was running FSX SE (Steam), a 32 bit flight simulator program.  I had a large number of addons, and was running into an out of memory situation.  I decided to transfer everything into Lockheed Prepar3D, v4.4, a 64 bit program.  As of a week ago, I had all my addon programs transferred to P3D.  This included my Air Traffic Control Program named Radar Contact.  Everything was working great.  I had deleted ea FSX program after getting the news ones installed.  I was on Cloud 9 with the new set up.  Two days ago, I uninstalled Steam with REVO Uninstaller and it cleared out all the related FSX files that were no longer in use.  I think it got this MSSTDFMT.DLL file too as the first time I opened Radar Contact I got the Runtime Error 713 saying the Class Not reflected and we needed the file MSS............dle to be installed.

I subsequently ran three sfc/scannow Command Prompts and it did not find any integrity violations.  Then I ran a Command Prompt DISM /Online / Cleanup-image /restore Health with the results saying the operation was successfully completed.  Another sfc/scannow again showed nothing.  I have searched my harddrives for it every way I can think of - to no avail.

I had this same problem occur 10 years or so ago.  Don't have a clue how it was fixed; don't even remember who fixed it.  Your 1st step above reflected it failed to Load.  Re Step 2, I'm always up to date.  Step 3 showed nothing.  I'm guessing the missing .dll was in Radar Contact and I was thinking I might get a copy from someone.  I'm going to the radar contact forum next and ask if someone would verify where they have it and can I get a copy.  If it's in Radar Contact, I can probably just uninstall and reinstall the program.  This is a critical program for me, but I want to be very careful and not corrupt anything in my Lockheed program.  Any further advice will be appreciated,  Mike

    Hi Smitty,

I tried reinstalling it over the old installation, and then uninstalled that and reinstalled it the second time with no luck.  I'm waiting for a local paid pro to call me tomorrow and see what he says.  If he cannot do it, I'm uninstalling it for good.  I'm sick and tired of making a legacy program work in P3D when the developer refuses to make it compatible.  I already have a program downloaded which will give me many busy hours (No more time than what I have already spent trying to straighten it out} learning how to use it.  I'll let you know what happens in the next few days.  Hopefully Jesse will be able to handle my problem.  Take care, Mike
