Is my Windows 7 legal?

Where do I purchase a product key,I read that digitalcodes is not legit.Any suggestion where can I get it legal and for a cheap price

Now that Microsoft no longer sells Windows 7,I was wondering if it is legal to download a copy of Windows 7 from torrent or some other site which allows to download Windows 7 ISO for free and install it saying that it is completely genuine.If I don't activate it,the wallpaper becomes black and there is mark on the lower right corner of the screen saying that "This copy of Windows is not genuine".But I am OK with this black this wallpaper and this message,I have no problem with it,is it illegal to use this copy of Windows? If its not legal,then where can I purchase a legal Windows 7 copy?

I would be calling a few computer retail stores.

Make sure that you have the correct version of what Windows 7 you are using written down such as Home / Premium / Pro and so forth.

Also whether it is OEM / RETAIL or VOLUME.

I would suspect retail.

To check this open the CMD PROMPT as ADMINISTRATOR.

Type in slmgr -dli

Press enter and it should bring up what it is.

The copy you have downloaded from a torrent is probably pirated.

That being said you don`t know what else is being downloaded with this file which could include viruses / spam and other un-wanted malware.

For a legitimate Windows 7 you would have to find out what version / product it is and buy a PRODUCT KEY for that particular version and register it.

It apparently can still be downloaded through MICROSOFT providing that you have bought a legitimate PRODUCT KEY for the particular make / version.
