I have a Samsung DVD writer model SE-208GB/RSDB that is not recognized by Windows 10. I don't know what happened but tried to reinstall it and it is not recognized at all. I have tried reaching Samsung to see if there is a driver I need but can't seem to get through to them either by chat or telephone (they don't call back) so was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

    Hello,

    Please try these steps:

    1. Open the Command Prompt with administrative privileges.
    2. Type the following command and hit Enter key:

    reg.exe add “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0” /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

    1. Exit the Command Prompt and reboot. Insert a disk to test and the optical or DVD drive should be recognized now.

Let us know if this helps!

Hello, have you checked the connection if they are properly connected? Try using the other USB ports as the one you may using may be defected. If you have done so and installed every driver and does not recognize, please try doing a system file check and a DISM health restore as this will fix the problems that may be causing this in the operating system. Here is how you can run system file check and DISM:

Hope this helps, and let me know if you have further questions! :-)

According to the amazon product page the drive is designed for macs and is a low powered device

    https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Ultra-Slim-compatible-SE-208GB-RSBD/dp/B00MLXA1HG

The issue may be it was not cross designed for mac and windows.

Another issue could be usb sleep settings in power options and device manager placing the device in a shutdown mode
