    Hello,

I have seen some of the replies that have been posted, however most of those replies are solutions to a problem that you don not have which is an existing CD drive that is not working or faulty,

The problem that you and many others myself included have is that the laptops do not have a cd drive, they never did. we all bought them without one. the solution to that I believe is to go to Dell and order one. you can install it yourself. its a matter of taking out the empty shell and inserting your new drive. that will solve the problem.

Note: be sure to get on that is compatible with your laptop.

Dear, that will not solve the issue, cos the SATA port is not inside, no optical or any other drive can be connected without SATA or other type connector.

Hi Rav. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Strange that it has no button or port hole to force it open with a paper clip. Are you sure your laptop came with a DVD drive?

Go into DDevice Manager reached by right clicking the Start button, look under DVD drive to see if it's present and has a driver installed that it says is working. If not you can Roll Back or Uninstall the driver to see if that fixes it.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

If this doesn’t work try this fix by Kapil Arya:

    Try these steps:

    1. Open the Command Prompt with administrative privileges.
    2. Type the following command and hit Enter key:

    reg.exe add “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0” /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

    1. Exit the Command Prompt and reboot. Insert a disk to test and the optical or DVD drive should be visible now.
