How do I configure a VPN connection to my Windows 10 machine?

I'm trying to setup a new VPN connection so others can connect to my network here.  All the guides I'm finding show this:

When I load my Network Connections, though, I do not have any menu bar:

I can't find anything to show/hide such a menu either.  I simply don't have it here.

Any information on how I can get to the "New Incoming Connection" would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

The bad news: The first link got me nowhere.

The worse news: On the second link I got nothing but the spinning circle.

The good news: I could download the clip. Excellent documentation.

You missed one small step: Pressing & releasing the Alt key exposes this file menu:

When the heck did this change?  I've never had to do that before.

I don't know, if only because I rarely set up VPN servers. I think it's silly to hide this item so well. Good luck with your VPN!

    Hi, Andrew,

dd or change a VPN connection in Windows 10

A VPN connection can give you a more secure connection to your company's network and the Internet.

To create a new VPN connection, select Start

    Windows logo Start button

    > Settings

    Gear-shaped Settings icon

    > Network & Internet > VPN > Add a VPN connection.

For VPN provider, choose Windows (built-in).

In the Connection name box, type a friendly name for the VPN connection profile.

In the Server name or address box, type the address for the VPN server.

For VPN type, choose the type of VPN connection you want to create. You'll need to know which kind of VPN connection your company or VPN service uses.

For Type of sign-in info, choose the type of sign-in info to use.

    Select Save.

When you have a VPN profile, you're ready to connect.

On the far right of the taskbar, select the Network icon. Select Connect under the VPN connection you want to use. Or, you can open Settings

    Gear-shaped Settings icon

    > Network & Internet > VPN and select the VPN connection there. If you're prompted, enter your sign-in information. When connected, the VPN connection name will display Connected underneath.

If you need to edit the VPN connection info or specify additional settings, select the VPN connection in Settings

    Gear-shaped Settings icon

    > Network & Internet > VPN, then select Advanced options.

    Open VPN settings

@smittychat, thanks for the reply, but I am not trying to connect to a VPN.  I am trying to setup a VPN so others can connect to me.

You missed one step, "Change adapter settings" - see here:

    https://pureinfotech.com/setup-vpn-server-windows-10/

Note also that setting up a VPN is not trivial. The remote users must know your external IP address, you must create a tunnel through your router and the VPN host must have a fixed internal IP address.
