    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

To have better clarity on the issue, answer the below-listed questions and get back to us.

    1. What is the name of the update that you installed prior to this issue?
    2. Do you see the mouse cursor on the black screen?
    3. Do you get any error message once the computer boots up?

As we checked the compatibility of your computer with Windows 10, your Dell Vostro 1550 is not compatible with Windows 10 and here is the link which says the same: Support for Vostro 1550. Once you click on the Support for Vostro 1550 link, click on the Operating System drop-down list and you will be able to see the compatible operating systems with your Dell Vostro 1550 computer.

Try the below methods and check if this helps.

Method 1: Troubleshoot Black Screen or Blank Screen.

I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned in Troubleshoot black screen or blank screen errors and see if this helps.

Method 2: Safe Mode with Networking.

If the Method 1 doesn't work, then boot your computer in Safe Mode with Networking by following the section From a black or blank screen from the link: Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10.

Boot your computer in Safe Mode with Networking and see if you are able to boot to the desktop. If you are able to boot to the desktop, then go to Device Manager (Right-click on the Start Menu) > Expand the Display adapters > Right-click and disable the Intel HD Graphics Driver and reboot your computer in Normal Mode.

If the computer is successfully booting to the desktop after disabling the Intel HD Graphics Driver, then uninstall the Intel HD Graphics Drivers and install the latest version of Graphics Drivers from the manufacturers website.

    Hope it helps.
