I want to disconnect my iPhone from the Photo App on my laptop. This app always receives photos from my phone and I’d like to stop it but I don’t know how.

Hello Chuck, my name is Alexander. I'm an Independent Advisor and I'm happy to assist you!

Do you have OneDrive app on your Windows 10 computer and on your iPhone? The positive answer means that you have turned on the Camera Upload Setting in OneDrive application on your iPhone resulting in automatic uploading of your photo and video files. Once uploaded, they appear in the Photos app on your computer.

Please, follow the steps on your iPhones OneDrive Application and turn off Camera Upload Settings:

    • Go to the OneDrive application, then click the ‘Me’ icon? Which is in the upper left corner of the screen and then click on Settings.
    • When you are in the Settings box, click on Camera Upload and turn off Camera Upload and save the settings.

Alternatively, your photos or videos might be synchronized using iTunes application on your Windows 10 computer. If yes, follow the steps below:

    • Start iTunes on your computer, then connect your iPhone using the USB cable. In case you connect via WiFi, make sure it is connected to iTunes. Please, find your name in the iTunes menu bar on both devices.
    • Tap on your phone's name in the iTunes menu bar and tap the Summary to make sure that there is a check mark next to ‘Manually manage music and videos’.
    • Tap on Apply.

Further, you might have installed iCloud on your Windows 10 computer. This feature also synchronizes iPhone and Windows 10 computer. If it is really so, follow the steps to change the settings in iCloud on your computer.

    • Start iTunes and tap on Settings -> Tap on iCloud -> Turn each of the sliders to Off to prevent syncing your iPhone content with iCloud.

    Best regards,

    Alexander B.

    Hi Chuck

If you keep your phone locked, it won't import photos automatically without you giving it permission.

Disconnecting your iPhone is a manual process, just unplug the USB cord if thats how you are connected or if it shows up as a storage device in This PC, right click it then click Eject.
