Discrete GPU is not listed in Graphics settings, Dedicated memory is incorrect in Task Manager, DXDIAG, and games

Hello Lenovo community, I've recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad130 laptop with AMD APU A6-9225 it comes with R4 Graphics, and it has a discrete GPU: AMD Radeon 530 2GB.

I have an issue with Dedicated GPU memory it is incorrect in Task Manager, and games. the amount shown is only 512MB which is related to R4 graphics, Even that application settings were reviewed and i made sure that I selected High performance.

Also in DXDIAG it shows only 512MB. this means for some reason my system is not using its full capacity and limited to almost 1/4 of the graphics memory?

When I Used Windows 10 Build 1803 and 1809 Settings> Display Settings> Graphics Settings. (Screenshot attached) Windows Sees only the R4 graphics as both Power savings and High performance GPU. certainly that's not correct, it should be 2 different GPUs here, Could this be causing this issue ?

I'm using the latest recommended OEM drivers, I tried multiple versions and used fresh installed windows after my research attempts didn't work.

The only place that shows correct adapter information is Radeon Settings and msinfo32

Please advise. Many thank

in second picture , dispay will be shown   on board graphics card AMD R4 .

but  in render  tab , dedicated gpu  should be   shown ,  But  renderer tab is  missing ,

IN system information , amd R4  is  512MB which can be  decreased or  increased up to 512MB in BIOS  only

Your  dedicated garphics is  correct 2GB .

AMD A 6 9225  processor comes with internal garphics as less than 1GB , i checked the technical specifications of  AMD A6 9225  ,

Dear Greg, Thank you for your reply, i intended to respond earlier but i was getting an error with the link to this discussion. Anyways, I've tried the Resources Monitor, it shows that Reserved Hardware Memory is 545 MB only.

Please note that I've tried different drivers versions from AMD and Lenovo and stable, beta, latest, even with the one the comes with windows update. all lead to the same results. Only one GPU listed in the Graphics settings, and 512MB of dedicated GPU memory in Task manager, and now i know it's also in Resources Monitor.

I've recently contacted Microsoft support after I didn't reach anywhere with AMD support,

I was advised to upgrade windows to the latest 1809 "October Update" version as this will resolve the issue, I've applied accordingly, and I've freshly installed the drivers, Unfortunately the issue remains.

I've tried upgrading BIOS, to 2.01 latest version of my device. still same issue.

I've also tried the Advanced BIOS settings, there's no settings to change the Memory size of the Integrated GPU, there simply an option to choose the Primary GPU and it was already set the Switchable Graphics, PCI Express graphics card.

Here's my link posting in Lenovo Community, unfortunatley no reposne yet:

    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-1xx-3xx-5xx-7xx/Dedicated-GPU-memory-is-incorrect-in-Task-Manager-DXDIAG-and/td-p/4291916

Please note that there's a similar issue reported here on Microsoft community that is identical symptoms but on a different hardware, with 18 people reporting they have the same issue:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/only-power-saving-gpu-available-in-windows-10/62c1ccf2-f639-4c31-8f0b-cdf026561cac

After this attempts and researches, this seems more like a bug with certain H/W or Driver issue,

I hope this issue can be escalated further so we can get more clarity if this is an issue or it's how the switchable graphics works, but if so, then how to make use of my Dedicated GPU that has 4 times the size of memory of the integrated one.

    Please advise,

    Many thanks

Hi Ramy. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Type Resource Monitor into Start Search. What Memory is reserved for hardware in Resource Monitor > Memory tab?

Also check in UEFI Setup for Graphics card settings to reapportion as necessary.

You can try other drivers, starting with the Lenovo Support Downloads web page for your exact model or Serial number from the sticker on the PC.

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS, network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

if this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...

or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...

or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

Also since the PC is new you have one year Support, Parts and Replacement Warranty I'd really use to get all issues either shaken out or a replacement that still has time to get all issues shaken out.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
