Unfortunately, the Microsoft "support" people are not going to help you.
All they do is do repeat the same canned responses, again and again, whenever this question is asked. They make zero effort to actually research the issue, because they do not care about actually fixing it.
This issue has been a problem for years, but the recent Windows update has made it even worse.
Basically, you cannot just use a controller as a mouse anymore, at least not without Microsoft hijacking the controller more and more with each new update, and insisting that their garbage controller support always is turned on and always takes priority.
The Microsoft "support" people will just tell you to stop using any of the excellent third-party options that used to work flawlessly, because to them that's the "solution". The fact that the official Microsoft controller support is both very badly executed and also functionally not even close to being actually complete and usable does not matter to them.
