Bluetooth/Wireless Internet/Asus Laptop/Wireless Headphones

Hello,

I recently purchased wireless headphones and tried to connect them via bluetooth to my asus x555l laptop. Well, it didn't go well. Or it didn't go period. The device could not be found when searching for it to pair and after watching countless tutorials in short this is the data:

*Bluetooth appearing on device manager as generic adapter- tried to update driver (atheros quadcom 4.0 indicated fully updated and an intel and windows built in check gave green light)- still same old nothing happened

*At no point did bluetooth support service appear in my services list even after trying a couple of fixes and ending up having a bluetooth device manager and a couple more bluetooth services (at first there were no services for my bluetooth)

*In an attempt to reinstall my bluetooth driver from scratch (didn't realise the stupidity of that idea at that point) I deleted my bluetooth device from the device manager (option given when right clicking and going for update check) and ended up not having wireless internet connection after rebooting system and, of course, not having the bluetooth in device manager anymore while still normally having the atheros wireless device still appearing the same.

Any ideas on solving the original problem of connecting the headphones to the laptop? (Fixed the internet by system reset and we are back to the original settings)

    Hello Lemp,

Thank you for your immediate response (didn't really expect that).

I have Windows 7 Ultimate and didn't get the updated drivers from Asus. Instead I ran a diagnostic from Intel and that led me to a website to get the drivers from the specific part that is supposed to be my Bluetooth device (but I have the suspision it is actually used for wireless internet connection after the issues I reported to my initial post). Also, I think I didn't mention previously, my bluetooth headphones need Bluetooth 4.0 to connect.

Before the update the Device manager listed:

    1.2.

    3.4.5.

    And after update:

    1.2.

    3.4.5

(the roll back option is not showing in the screenshots because I took them pre-restarting my laptop).

I hope that with these my problem is thoroughly explained and, if not, please tell me any additional info needed. (I expect I have goofed at some point but better know to avoid in the future.)

Thank you for your help in advance.

    Regards,

    Angie

In short: the bluetooth support service is nowhere to be found (never was even when initially trying to make the bluetooth work), any ideas why that would me missing from my services tab?

The "services tab" in "Task Manager" is not the same as the Services applet that you get when you run services.msc.

When you say that the Bluetooth Support Service is nowhere to be found, are you looking at a screen like the one in my previous post or are you looking at something like this:

    Hello,

I cannot remember any bluetooth devices ever connecting to my laptop, but I am not 100% sure about that. The fact is that my laptop does not find any of my bluetooth devices when they are trying to pair, although my smartphone shows the laptop as available(note: it doesn't show the name I have given to the bluetooth device). The phone shows an error if I try to make it pair with the laptop telling me to check the settings of the laptop and retry.

The headphones can successfully connect to the smartphone without any fuss.

Thank you again for your time!

Thanks for all of the screenshots.

Unfortunately, they take away the easy answer.  The LMP version 7.1 shown on the "Advanced" tab indicates that this device is Bluetooth 4.1 capable.

The USB\VID PID information does indicate that you have a Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth device, and it appears that whatever driver you downloaded is working.

The first two entries in the "Network adapters" category of Device Manager are related to your Bluetooth adapter.  Although many laptops use a single device that combines Bluetooth and wi-fi, as near as I have been able to determine, the "Qualcomm Atheros AR956x" is wi-fi only.  That is, you have two separate devices, each of which has its own driver.

You mentioned something about services in your first post.  If you start the Services app (click Start, type services.msc in the Search box, press Enter), is the Bluetooth Support Service running?

Try to identify whether the problem is with the headphones or the laptop:

Do you have another Bluetooth device that can successfully connect to the laptop?

Or can you connect the Bluetooth headphones to some other device, such as a smart phone?

I'm having a little difficulty following your description.

What version of Windows do you have?  Although you've asked your question in the Windows 7 section of the forum, the only drivers Asus has for that model are for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

If you have some flavor of Windows 7, where did you get the Bluetooth (and other) drivers from?

Please open Device Manager, double-click the Bluetooth category to expand it.  Double-click on each item in the Bluetooth category, and please report:

    1.  The complete name of the item

    2.  On the "General" tab:  the "Device Status"

    3.  On the "Advanced" tab (if present):  the LMP version, if any is shown

    4.  On the "Driver" tab:  The Driver Provider, Driver Date, and Driver Version

    5.  On the "Details" tab:  select "Hardware Ids" from the drop-down list and then copy/paste the first line in the "Value" window into your reply here.
